If Microsoft made Windows better at virus then we would not have this problem.

The problem isn't Windows itself, as much as the extent to which it has penetrated the market and the business practices of Microsoft.

If Slackware was the dominant desktop OS, people would spend more of their time trying to bash it to pieces instead.

Windows is just a very big and easy target.

Onecare will be for pay by subscription, that sucks

Its going to be a subscription based program, i'm sure Microsoft won't even reconsider this.

It just means that now microsoft will financially gain for their software vunerabilities...

Saying that, so far i've heard good things about it and if its good i'll get is so long as the price isn't rediculous.

You don't have to use this, its optional not an essential part of Windows. You pay for third party firewalls, Anti Virus programs, tune up programs etc so there is nothing wrong with paying for this also they would probsbly be sued for making this free as it would be anti competetive.

Looks very nice.

I hope they include it as part of Vista.

And it's Windows screwed up permissions that make it insecure, not people trying to get it becuase it's big.

Microsoft should look at offering it as part of windows and charge a one off fee on top of the windows license

I think thats a really good idea, and I would buy it, but I dont think its gonna happen.

I personally think it should be free for one reason, Microsoft is the ony who makes Windows and they don't make it secure. Why should I pay $200 for an OS that has bugs to begin with and then turn around and pay a subscription fee because Microsoft can't get it right in the first place?

Why can't they just build it in to some sort of future OS perhaps? (maybe the final of Vista/Longhorn) OR as a future service pack update maybe?

Remeber all the fiasco with the EU, and that was just to do with some wmp codec. Now imagine what would happen if MS bundled OneCare with Windows Vista. Symantec, McAfee and others would have a field day at the courts along with the EU Trade Commision, DoJ.

Microsoft is probably tired of all these suits being files against them.

I like that idea.

Yeah, definitely want a one-time payment. I mean, its normal for software companies to charge for major new software versions, so I really think a one time fee should do it.

I see no reason why microsoft couldnt release this as a seperate product, for free.

There are many freeware utilities, including firewalls and antivirus and thats no problem. Why wouldt microsoft be allowed to release freeware? So long as its not bundled with this os..

So microsoft should release it for free
