bobbyrabbit
I'm using my onboard LAN which is a Realtek 8169. On firing up IE i'm getting 'connecting to 1.0.0.0' in the status bar. I'm also noticing in the Local Area Connection Status that no packets are being received at all. So, no internet. I've managed to connect to my server domain to a fashion, as when I try to connect to another computer it's asking for machine username and password. Other machines on the network then also try connecting to 1.0.0.0 on IE startup. All machines homepages are google .co.uk. I also had these problems with build 5048, so maybe its an incompatible Network device. If someone can help that would be great. Superb forum by the way, I've been visiting here for over a year now, great source of info.
Lee G. Veteran Posted August 1, 2005 Veteran Share Posted August 1, 2005 I have exactly the same problem. But I haven't solved it. Must be some DNS issue.

McSmiggins
Sounds like the DNS is set a bit wrong, unless you've got you're network on 1.0.0.x, but then the x should be at least one as TCP/IP doesn't support a 0 in place of the x (well, it does, but it has a different meaning to an address). Unless I'm misunderstanding it, if I am, can some1 point it out to me? Is it talking to the computers on the domain correctly? If so you're getting a decent IP for your network, just not out onto the internet. Can you set the IP of the PC manually? (Network Connections -> Local Area Connection (or whatever it's called) right click -> properties -> double click TCP/IP and set the connection there. (Eg, IP of the computer you normally get from the DHCP server, subnet mask and gateway). And try pointing the DNS entry to various things - the router, you're server (I assume you've got one as you're on a domain) and set the secondary DNS entry in that box to the primary DNS of you're ISP (you should be able to get it from your router). Finally make sure in Internet Explorer (assuming you're using that) in Tools - Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings that all the boxes are cleared. Know it's prob teaching you to suck eggs, but let us know how you get on.

Hope that helps! ;)
bobbyrabbit
It was getting an IP address via DHCP so all was fine to that point. I tried Analise6590 suggestion and that worked, so I have at least got Internet. Thanks for that. Looking forward to the next bug!! Stezo2K Thanks for the obligatory 'It's a beta' post. Knew that was coming :D
