That's because is running on the fall back VGA service, did you install some sort of GART driver for your MB chipset?

I am having this exact issue.

Whenever I have the regular ATI driver (non-LDDM) the adaptor shows up fine in device manager as it should, and in the proprties of the Display, it fine as well. When I install the LDDM drivers, either the beta ATI ones or the ones MS installed automatically, everything shows up as N/A exactly like in the picture that kenshin_zer0 posted. I realize that it is using a generic vga driver, but how to I get it to stop using it...

ClintEastman, you mentioned about installing a GART driver. Are you meaning that the driver should be installed? Or shoudln't be?

I have tried a few different thigns trying to get this to work.

I reinstlaled Vista again.

I installed the XP drivers first, then updated to the ati beta one. I also tried the MS one.

Whenever I have the LDDM driver installed the vga adaptor goes back to a generic one, but as soon as I use the non LDDM driver it shows up correctly.

I am using an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb.

I had a similar problem as well. It seems that my video card is one of two that have issues with Vista (the Radeon X800 XL) and so I haven't been able to get the full LDDM features working yet. At first, my screen was totally black (because Vista detects my AGP card as being a PCI-Express card, and installed the PCI-E drivers). I downloaded the beta ATI drivers and installed them, and I could then see stuff on screen, but the cool glass and transparency features aren't working. Oh well...hopefully it'll be fixed by the final version.

Yeah, none of the glass effects are working for me either, but I can't figure out why it keeps defaults to a generic vga driver when I install the LDDM drivers... It shows up fine in the device manager. Even if I open dxdiag it shows its a generic driver.

I dont understand why the same model of some cards are working and the some cards are not working... I am going to download a GART driver and install that and see if that helps....

andrewhaji,

I'm in the same boat as you with the X800XL AGP.. you said you got it to actually boot to windows with ATI's beta drivers? I just downloaded them from their website and tried that and had the EXACT same problem as with the ones that came with it... anything special you did? I know you said you couldn't see the lddm effects, but just something to go by maybe!

Thanks,

Jordan
