marke
"My advice here is simple: Boycott Internet Explorer. It is a cancer on the Web, and must be stopped. IE is insecure and is not standards-compliant, which makes it unworkable for both end users and Web content creators. However, because of user base, Web developers are hamstrung into writing to it at the expense of established standards which work equally well in all other browsers. You can turn the tide by demanding better from Microsoft and using a better alternative Web browser. I recommend and use Mozilla Firefox, but Apple Safari (Mac only) and Opera 8 are both worth considering as well." Link
King Trode
Instead of boycotting why not help the problems with the browser and work with them instead of against them?
Arckon
LOL That's good! I'm a bit surprised to hear it from Paul Thurrott though. Good call m8!

y2kboy23
Instead of boycotting why not help the problems with the browser and work with them instead of against them? 586313890 When you boycott IE, they'll get the message that their consumers don't like the product and will fix it. When you help them, you are sending the message, I like the product, but just needs some tweaking.

Lee G. Veteran Posted August 2, 2005 Veteran Share Posted August 2, 2005 I found this somewhat shocking. I though PT was a huge MS booster to the point of being a zealot. If I were eating cornflakes, I would have chocked on them. 586313941 I was suprised too  Mr. & Mrs. Average are not going to boycott it even if it is covered in bugs and loopholes. IE will be always be the most used as most people use Windows and most don't have the experience in knowing to switch browser.
thejohnnyq
This shows that he is not the expert he claims to be. Firefox has had major holes, and issues, and they are not getting addressed, and some of the holes were years old, (pre dating firefox, back to it's roots). There are issues with all browsers, and they are slowly being fixed. I say Boycott Paul Thurott.

RangerLG
And when regular users start using FF and find some of their websites don't render correctly, they'll say screw this crap and go back to IE.

theyarecomingforyou
I completely agree with him, yet people will still cling to IE. I can understand the average user wouldn't know any better or would believe it too much bother to change browsers, but regular computer users should know better. By not updating IE Microsoft are holding back web design, which has remained static for 6-7 years. While I usually stick up for Microsoft against pointless attacks, this I feel is very much justified.

Packet1009
i'm not an IE user for my browsing (i use Opera) and i think it's rather irresponsible of him to go about being all high and mighty 'boycott IE'. for starters, there are so many applications (and yes, some are by MS) that only work with IE in terms of integrated authentication & controls, etc - a working alternative is required before hopping onto a bandwagon. i would have taken him far more seriously if he had said 'dont use IE for XYZ' instead of a blanket 'boycott IE'. prejudice shows off idiocy a little too well... oh well, 5 minutes of life wasted (reading article & typing reaction here)... Fuzzbling
Look, I like IE too, but I refuse to use half baked crap, that doesn't adhear to the simple standards that everyone else has embraced. When it comes to IE, it's like pulling teeth to get things changed and things fixed in a timly manner. I'd gladly use IE if MS would listen and make the changes to ensure better compatiblity, usablity, and stablity. I agree with Paul, not because he said so, or because I'm anti-IE, but because he has a valid point and I feel the same way about it.
