ATI 9800 Pro

Recommended Posts

i've read about people having DWM on the 9800 pro, i have one but i dont have the DWM effects :(

Drivers i've tried:

ATI's new beta drivers

Vista's LDDM drivers

Omega Drivers

Vistas standard drivers

Resources i've tried

Tweak Vista

EnableDwm

none of these worked, also all the drivers appart from vista's standard drivers made dragging and scrolling in windows lag.

how can i enable the DWM?, thanks for any help.

First I was using the drivers that came with vista, which were working fine. Then I downloaded the drivers from ATI and those are working fine also.

I am having the same issue as you except for I have a 9600 pro...

Do me a favor.. go to start -> run -> dxdiag

Click on Display.... Does it tell you that you are running a generic driver?

oh right, well when i had the LDDM drivers installed they showed as LDDM, but the device wasnt named like this.. is. reason i dont use the LDDM drivers is that, it doesnt give me the effects still and lags, so whats the point if i can get very fast results from the generic drivers :D

Ah, yeah, when I have the XP ati driver installed it shows up fine in dxdiag. When I have the LDDM drivers installed, it shows says that I am using a generic VGA driver or something like that in dxdiag.. I am going to try and update the GART driver or something like that when I get home in an hour and see if that helps...

Yeah, that is very true... The only thing I can think of it that is has to be something with the MB chipset because the same card works on other systems... I will post the results when I get home...

I bet the problem is in the MB's chipset. I have a Radeon 9800 XT and i can't enable the DWM. I tried all drivers available and tweakvista and nothing worked for me. Then i went to the Device Manager and i found that i didnt have any driver for the agp, i installed and nothing, plus after installing that driver i got lag during dragging and opening windows even with the normal catalyst driver wich i used for better performance. Due to this my conclusion is that the chipset isnt supported. I am using a SINXP1394 MB from Gigabyte with SIS 655 chipset, specs here --> http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/MotherBoard/Pro...0%20Ultra2).htm

Can anyone see if the DWM effects are working on MB with SIS chipsets and compatible graphic boards?

  • 3 weeks later...

I have the exact same mobo and video card setup you have. And I have the exact same problem. Its gotta be something related with chipset.

Question... If i were to have glass working on my 9800, would I be able to use the resolution 1680x1050 with it? Whenever I had LDDM drivers running the max res. I could run was 1280x1024.
