I don't think so, He openly insults his mother in front of her face at one point, and she doesn't notice.

Wouldn't be much different than the majority of parents I see these days. :(

I think I am the only person on the planet who hates this cartoon. The giggidy guy is extremely annoying (how many times are people supposed to laugh at that stupid line) and what's wrong with his face; it's huge. Looks like some kind of mutant. The baby with the football shaped head is also annoying and the concept of an intelligent baby that can talk isn't exactly new (or interesting). Also seems to me he is just a ripoff from Pinky and the Brain. I'm not even going to mention the talking dog or the idiot slob of a dad. Anyway, from what I've seen though, nobody actually understand the baby.

/prepares for onslaught of "You have no sense of humor" comments. Whatever.

Yes they can. One episode he asks Chris who the girl is and chris repondes, "You know here that's Meg." Stewie responds, "Meg you vile smelling girl.

I always thought that in situations like that they were just were just guessing what he wanted to know because he gave them a questioning look while "talking" to them or something like that.

post-125502-1126105491.jpgMore "proof" that Stewie is understood. In the "Brian In Love" episode (with the uncontrollable peeing), after he asks Lois about the tuna fish sandwich, Lois accuses Stewie of wetting the carpet. He becomes insulted and tells Lois to bend down AND SHE DOES. Then he slaps her and she says (and I quote), "Stewie, no hitting; use your words." This is also the episode where they want to potty train Stewie. Peter is trying to teach Stewie to use the toilet and Stewie tells Peter to put his hands on the toilet seat because it will help him to relax and Peter DOES IT! In that same conversation (and someone already mentioned this), Peter says that he should give Stewie some beer because it will help him pee. Stewie responds with, "And then maybe later on we can smoke a doobie and watch some porn" and Peter, clearly understanding him, says "Yeah?"

I said it b4 and I'll say it again, they just accept the fact that Stewie is as smart as he is (at least in his language skills; they're completely stupid to the fact that his an evil little megalomaniac

I've always thought that they can only understand certain words he says; perhaps Stewie doesn't know how to properly pronounce the other words, or that his vocal chords aren't developed enough hence the fact that only Brian can hear everything he says :/

Brian the dog definately understands Stewie.

The rest of the family gets a general gist of what Stewie wants/is thinking, but I don't think they understand him fluently.

Just my take.

yeah i agree w/ this.... Brian yes.

the rest understand his emotions and attitudes but not what he's saying word for word.

It's me again, once more with the "proof" that the family can understand Stewie. In the episode "Wasted Talent" where Peter has to be drunk in order to play the piano well, Stewie tells Peter to play the "slow, sad song" from the Incredible Hulk and Peter plays the song. Did everybody just think that it was a coincidence that he played the EXACT song that Stewie said to play?

In the famous words of Peter, "Come on! Come on!"

I think that only Brian and Stewie can understand each other. The other humans can't understand Stewie, but they can understand Brian (at least it seems that way most of the time).
