Bearded Kirklander
This is what you people are talking about: Wow. That's purdy! Wonder if it will be worth the loss in productivity. Folks will sit there and mess with ALT-Tabbing just cause it looks cool. :p Wonder how much it will bog down the system. Glad we can still have the classic way of ALT-Tabbing as an option, at least. I don't want resources hoggin' up my video card when I need to start some massive game like Far Cry or something. That would like totally blow chunks. I guess those 512 meg video cards will now have a reason to exist. 256 meg for the Windows GUI stuff and 256 meg for games. Edited August 10, 2005 by Bearded Kirklander
sachleen
I though it was just messed up in my brain, but it did exist... wow, it looks really cool. long time since i acctually heard about it tho. i hope its in the next beta

crazzyyfool
What's the point in the Alt-Tab system if it shows windows like that concept pic above. I mean. You can't actually see what the windows contain. So it kinda defeats the object don't it. Rock on Expose I say. :D

Syphonic
Yeah, owning an iBook but having a Windows machine as my main computer, something like expose would really help. I find it speeds up my work on the mac no end, i don't care if ms have to barely avoid copyright laws and rip it off, i want to be able to hit a key and have all the open windows splay out like they do when you hit F9 (by default) on a mac. DG55
Speaking of these kind of effects, I noticed that in Beta1, the taskbar "grouping" functionality had completely disappeared. Hopefully they have taken this feature out until beta2 because it has been updated with some flashy 3d effects!?
Commodore Max
As they said, it is only Beta 1. Whistler didn't look at all like XP in beta 1. But I sure hope these features return !
Hiiragi Tsukasa
If they're trying to go for a simpiler, standard home user-friendly interface, that alt-tab would be stupid.
Allaccess
maybe they will go for a simplified alt+tab like... would be great but anyway, my MX510 do it great =)
dagamer34
LH Build series 4xxx are based on Windows XP. LH Builds series 5xxx and Vista Beta 1 are based on Windows Server 2003 SP1 as of 2004. They've only been working on Vista in it's current form for 1 1/2 years and the Alt-Tab effect is one of those glossy things not really meant for Beta 1 (mostly new crucial OS features). Wait for Beta 2.
Morgan
I think it would be awesome if they included the alt-tab back into Beta 2. I really like it alot.
Commodore Max
I trust it will be in Beta 2. If not, then in one of the RC's.
Zirus
THANK YOU I thought I was the only one who really missed that feature. I thought it was visually appealing (eye candy). I too, wish they would bring that back. However, I also agree with those of you who want to keep the option of being able to use the old one. The old one would be better for "middle aged" xp machines that run Longhorn.
Commodore Max
I think it will be automatically disabled when Aero Glass is disabled ...
Bearded Kirklander
I think it will be automatically disabled when Aero Glass is disabled ... So that effect is limited to the Aero Glass setup? No other way to get it going except enabling Aero Glass?
noenflux
In 5219, if you have Aero Glass running, Win+Spacebar does it. No idea why it's no longer Alt+Tab.
