"USB does not exist" - my computer

Recommended Posts

Until yesterday I happily used a USB printer and scanner in my two USB ports on Windows XP. But (for an unrelated reason) yesterday I ran the Windows XP repair, by booting from the CD, selecting Install (cos I can't use the Repair Console whatever that is) and then "Repair the current installation".

Everything was fine except now the computer point blank refuses to acknowledge the existence of any connected USB devices. Driver software claims nothing is plugged in, though they are, and no amount of uninstalling, unplugging, replugging, and whatever will solve it. Any ideas?

The automatic-ness of USB is great when it works, but it's annoying that there's no manual way to communicate with a USB device when the automatic detection fails. :right:

By the way I should point out that the USB ports are still correctly detected and installed by Windows as you can see:

Just that nothing happens when the printer/scanner are plugged into them.
