is it danger? p4 1.7@2.01

Recommended Posts

im increasing my fsb to 118 to make my p4 1.7 gigz becomes 2.01 gigz. im not using any cooler system. my mobo (asus p4b) temp is 40 C, and my cpu temp is 57 C, is it dangereous?

system is running very stable this far

I don't think that it's dangereous it just might not be to good to run at that high of a temp for to long.

Your not using any cooling? Dude invest in a decent cpu fan like a thermal take and some artic silver, and it will run cooler and you will be safer.

artic silver is a thermal paste that helps heat transfer by filling in the tiny holes in the surfaces. thermaltake is a brand of fan that would replace the one currently on your processor.

Overclocking anything on your computer without first looking at better cooling is dangerous. Unless you've got a lot of money sitting around to burn on new P4s.

i know there's a lot of debate, but generally, as long as you are below 60C, you aren't putting any severe strain on your processor. above that, and you'll start to shave hours off it's life, but i doubt you plan on using your processor for however long their expected life is (i forget the approx. number)

temp is dependent on several things, what your doing at that time how hot it is in the room ect.

Here is a link http://processorfinder.intel.com/scripts/l...ALL&PkgType=ALL

it has a list of all p4 models and there max temps...........

your running a Asus P4b as seen HERE

So I am a asuming you have a P4 socket 478 chip in fc-pga2 package. the temps run from 70-76c but that is the "core temp" so on the inside, you are looking at the temp on the surface which will be slightly cooler

get some cooling i'm sorry but are you stupid cause you never use stock cooling if your gonna over clock that much especiall a P4 which is kinda expensive.

Woot Woot 300th Post i'm getting up there.

its no matter, what you gonna do with it. and its not the product key (fckgw...) that you use. its the generated one. also if it wasnt xp, i dont think that that matters at all?

I believe that would be dangerous without sufficient cooling..

But with sufficient cooling, it really doesn't matter.

My neighbor overclocked his 1.6GHz P4 to 2.45GHz :o :)

CPUCool.. I don't have the link though.. Sorry..

You can look for it on Yahoo :)

the 1.6 you talking about is northwood built on 0.13 and that can do it eASY. but the 1.7 is old school willametter 256kb 0.18 that cant go very far.
