Interior Ministry sources told Online that 56 ambassadors and High Commissioners of Islamic countries in Pakistan have been informed in writing about the government's decision of expelling foreign students studying in Pakistan's religious seminaries. Sources told that maximum foreign students studying in religious seminaries hail from Afghanistan and their numbers are estimated to be above 300 closely followed by Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Tunis and Morocco. According to the statistics available with the Interior Ministry there are more than 14000 religious seminaries in the country out of which 6000 have been registered under the Society Registration Act 1860. However according to religious seminaries sources and non government circles the number of religious seminaries registered and un registered exceed 21,000 majority of them in NWFP, Balochistan, Tribal areas and Punjab. Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao in a interview had claimed that Islamic countries had extended their support to Pakistan government's decision of expelling foreign students. " There are many students who have no visas or NOC and by registering religious seminaries we want to bring them in the national streamline, which would be beneficial to the religious seminaries", the Interior Minister had said. Sources further told that more than 1400 foreign students hailing from Yemen, Sudan, Indonesia, Iran, Kuwait, Malaysia, Algiers, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Oman, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Libya, Palestine, Turkmenistan, UAE, Algeria, Bahrain, Brunei, Qatar, Ghana, Lebanon, Maldives, Morocco, Somalia, Tunis and Egypt are currently studying in Pakistanis madarssahs. http://www.paktribune.com/news/index.php?id=114919 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
