Elektro
what is the scoop with athlon xp's and other AMD processors, i know the actual rates are lower, but do they perform like their names? Like the Athlon XP 2000+, which is really 1.67Ghz, does it perform like a 2Ghz?
Jm1397
in some cases yes, and then in some rare cases no. Search google or something for some benchmarks. I have one and have it overclocked to 1833MHz, with a volcano 7+ works fine
thingsforjason
now that's a vague question... :D i'm assuming you're asking "does it perform like a 2GHz" Intel chip? I think when you look at benchmarks, you'll see that an Athlon XP 2000+ will best a 2GHz Pentium 4 pretty much hands down...but it's getting to the point now that the Intel chips are running at 2.5GHz with a new core and bigger cache...AMD just can't keep up with their core design and whatnot...ugh. too much technical stuff for me to type. take a look at the reviews. http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1574&p=1 http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/02q1/0201...0107/index.html
username
generally, the PR speed rating is a tad above the intel clocked chip http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1635&p=
Roger H. Veteran Posted July 2, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 2, 2002 well yeah.. They kick ass to even tho they are slower in clock speed but we all know clock speed isn't everything for basical applications now-a-days. If you need to encode some video andall that then go all out and get the fastest P4 cuz it will help there but the latest AMD XP 2200+ (1.8Ghz) will be right behind the 2.53Ghz P4. So compare that. Everyone (the "Intel Fanboys") all say benchmarks don't matter and all this cuz they don't use real applications (talking about Sisoft Sandra 2002) but stuff like 3DMark2001 SE, SysMark2002 and alot more normal games bought in the store run faster sometimes with AMDs. Just look at reviews of video cards on certain sites and stuff and see that the same card with the same game and drivers seem to perform just as good as a P4 2.53ghz and sometimes even better when you overclock the 1.80Ghz CPU to 2.0Ghz and see howt aht puppy KICKS ASS... just a thought. :) /edit according to that link on Anandtech they underestimated the PR rating. The AMD XP 2200 (which is supposed to be "2.2Ghz") actually beats the Intel P4 @ 2.4Ghz!
