OneCare Beta

Recommended Posts

In my betaplace page, it tells me to install via the web, and use the cd key that i get in the mail, but i have not recieved anything from them... not even an email to tell me that i was accepted into the program...

Are there people that are still waiting on their cd's?

I follow that link and it says I am enrolled in the OneCare beta.  I then click the link to install and it says it is only for approved beta participants.  Odd.

Same with me, although I can't see a link to install it. It just says I am enrolled into the beta, can anyone shed some light on this? I'd love to test it.

I do believe people are still waiting on their cd's. And while I like this as a basic all in one package for a simple computer, I still would like better control over the firewall. The A/V works great and I like the tune-up. I also wish it had better integration with a sypware/adware program such as their own spyware program.

Awesome I think I'm in! It says "Note: Windows OneCare is currently in beta testing. The services on this page are accessible only to registered beta participants. Find out how you can participate in the Windows OneCare Beta." And I can see "Activate your one year subscription" and I'm about to set it up but I don't have a product key, does this mean I'm in? And if so when will I get my product key?

Follow the links and see what happens. Mine says:

Setting up Windows OneCare

Access limited to approved beta participants

Error Message Text:

If you are interested in nominating yourself for the Windows OneCare beta program, please go to Windows OneCare Live Beta for more information.

I actually put in two suggestions. One was mentioned by someone on here and that's to allow people to backup to another HDD and not just cd's/dvd's. I also mentioned how a WMP plugin allowing quick backup of music (especially useful for MSN Music customers) would be kind of nice.

Whee, the site is now actually letting me download the setup file. Too bad I was never sent a product key -- it's probably in the mail. What I did was accept the free trial period of 1 month and, assuming I get the product key in the mail, I will just convert the subscription.

I don't know why I am excited about this beta, but whatever. OneCare looks like a really good suite.

I think he was talking to me and I've done pretty much the same. I got invited for Windows Server 2003 and MSN Mobile beta but declined the offer. I don't have a desire to test those things out.

I am more excited about the OneCare beta because I think the thing is going to be really good for the consumer. The idea of the green/yellow/red light system and how automated the entire thing is is brilliant yet simple. It is definitely something I will purchase if it doesn't become included in my MSN Premium subscription.

Finally got around to installing this. Overall, I like it ok. Like others mentioned, it would be nice to be able to backup to a network, or external drive, so I put that in the survey comments. It seems to take a while to scan for viruses on first scan, I guess it was sorting and indexing the files or something, next scan did not seem to take as long.

For anyone who installs this before you get your key. When you get your key you will have to uninstall OneCare then reinstall using the key.

No you don't. Just go to the beta site and convert your subscription.
