NVIDIA ALPHA DRIVERS

Recommended Posts

OK.

Have got vista beta 1 up and running no probs (except for a few wireless DNS issues - resolved).

However, ive now put on the NVIDIA Vista Alpha Drivers and its all gone a bit wrong.

They installed fine, but on restart only the top left quater of the desktop is on screen (looks like its in 640x480).

Changing the screen resoloution/refresh rate has no effect - I can only ever see the top left portion of the screen (i.e. no start bar etc as its off the bottom of the screen).

Has anyone else come across this or know of a workaround?

Graphics card is 6800 GT PCIe.

yeah i think there are lots of ppl with this trouble... i've seen alot of 6600's users complaining..... which in my opinion is crap .... i mean ... 6xxxx cards are expensive.... and to get these cards you think they would handle all kinds of things..... and with MS being very open to the public with there min req's ... ya think MS would know about problems about the 6xxxx's before the beta going public .... and would of came up with a fix! .. or hell ... eve Nvidia having a fix ... meh... thank god my GeforceFX 5700 still comes in handy

Hmm ive tried reinstalling the alpha drivers about 6 times now and every time its the same old story.

Have rolled back to the NVIDIA ones that shipped with Vista, but sadly no transparent windows etc..

before the beta going public

WRONG ! This is not a public beta. The reason ? People thinking like you.

It'll be fixed. report it. That's what betas are for.

Not the brightest star in the universe there, are ya stephen?

That's ok man, we can't all be superstars.

Oh, vista works fine for me on a 6600GT with the alpha drivers. The desktop is nice but 3D performance goes way down. I'm not complaining though, since I'm not an official tester. Just stating the facts.

With the included drivers, I don't get glass effects but games run great.

just to be clear - the drivers we are discussing here are NOT the ones that shipped with Vista.

The ALPHA drivers in question are downloaded from the nvidia website version 75.03

This apparently happens to NVIDIA 6xxx series graphics cards with analog monitors. By that I mean users who aren't using DVI monitors (the ones with digital connectors)

I've searched many forums, including the official NVIDIA forums, but no answer has been given. It's just a bug that most likely will be fixed in another driver release - just hold your breath until it's fixed. Don't forget, these are ALPHA drivers.

For the record, the same thing happens to me, and yes, it does suck. I was looking forward to seeing the glass effects just as much as the next guy.

If I see one more post from some one saying "ITS JUST A BETA YOU IDIOT" or "DONT FORGET ITS JUST AN BETA...ALPHA" .. insert sentence indicating your an idiot for even thinking about it.

Well i've got something to say to you. Go **** yourselves. Of course we realise its a beta/alpha with bugs in it ... All we are trying to do is resolve/ create workarounds for them to progress the incident further...

If we didnt disucess these thing/try them out what would be the ****ing point of a beta???!

Blah.

An seriously .. comments like "Not the brightest star "... Thats just mean and nasty. You should go home and rethink your life.

All I have noticed is that the icons on the screen suddenly turned into just black boxes - only way I can decribe it. I have a Geforce 6600GT 128MB card. I am back in Windows XP right now so dont know if a reboot will fix the problem

Stephen in your first post, you are saying that because someone paid a lot of money for a graphics card, it should immediately support any beta OS that hasn't even come out yet.

That's just idiotic.

The whole idea of a beta is to iron out these exact sort of problems.

well .. if that what you got from my post.. i apologize..... but that only half of what i meant....... what i tried to get across... was the fact that .... ppl like me who are using lower grade Nvdia cards like the FX 5700 are having no probs with the glass effect.... while ppl who have the 6xxx's are have trouble....

I had the same problem with my 5900XT. Luckily, Microsoft includes LDDM drivers for the 5900XT out of the box, so reverted back to the Microsoft drivers.
