Switching Toolvars and Tab Close Buttons

Recommended Posts

I'm a new convert to Opera (see here). I'm trying to ease the conversion from Firefox. So far, I've set up the Ctrl + T to open a new page. I've gotten the tab behavior pretty similar. However, I'd like to know how to switch the toolbars so the standard File, Edit, View bar is on top, then the address bar (back, forward, refresh/stop, URL), then the bookmark bar (Personal Bar in Opera), THEN the tab bar (Page Bar).

Also I'd like to know how to get a close button (that closes the current tab). I don't want a close button on each tab, but one for the current tab.

Next, is there any way so that when you open a new tab (new page) that it can be at the end of the list rather than after the active tab?

Finally is there a way to have it so that when I hit Ctrl + Tab, that it takes me to the next tab rather than bringing up that screen?

Thanks :D!

OK where to start :)

First question:

This requires a little bit of fiddling as opera doesn't let you drag the bars anywhere like IE does.

So you want it to look like

File menu

Address bar

Personal Bar

Tab Bar

The menu bars fine so leave that as it is, enable the status bar and put it to the top, drag the address bar onto the status bar (hold shift and drag) also drag the buttons you want moved. Enable the personal bar and disable the address bar.

Second question:

It's not possible to have a close button only on the active tab but if you open the preferences and uncheck show close button on tabs you will get a min/maz/close button on the menu bar.

Third question:

Open preferences and click on advanced then browsing and uncheck open new page next to active. (although this shold be unchecked by default)

Fourth question:

I think you can but I can't remember off the top of my head how to do it.

Preferences -> General -> uncheck "Show close button on each tab"

Get special button "Close page" (http://home.no.net/polynar/opera/custom/custom_buttons.php) and drag to any Opera's toolbar.

Finally is there a way to have it so that when I hit Ctrl + Tab, that it takes me to the next tab rather than bringing up that screen?

Yes you can. Preferences -> Advanced -> Shortcuts -> Keyboard setup ->Edit. Quick find "tab ctr" and change Actions to "Switch to next page"

Quick find "tab ctr shift" and change Actions to "Switch to previous page"

You can find the appropriate buttons for the close problem at this page.
