Just a question

Question

First off I'm really not sure if this should be put in Software Assistance section or not. If so can one of the Mods put it in the correct section of this forum. Thanks.

I just wanted to know if anyone has a suggestion for an alternative to Microsoft Windows operating system that's easy to use and install programs and so forth.

Don't suggest Linux because I've spent all of the time I'm going too on Linux. I've tried SuSE, Mandrake, Slackware and Debian to name the most popular I've tried and I've installed all of them fine without problems but it's just a pain in the a** to try to install any apps on it and I was looking for something a lot simpler.

I'm on an x86 platform using an Intel Pentium IV processor and I'm not interested in buying a Mac right now (don't have the money and there too expensive for what you get hardware wise).

I've also tried FreeBSD but not the other BSD flavors.

To put it simpler if someone can find a Linux or BSD flavor that's just as easy to install and a hell of a lot easier to install apps I'll definately give it a try but if not can someone suggest a different operating system not listed above if any that's fairly easy to install and can install apps a whole lot easier than Linux or BSD and runs on an x86 platform.

Sorry for this being so long but I wanted to give you a little history about what I've tried and why I don't like what I've tried and the reason I want an alternative operating system besides Linux or BSD which is "I want to be able to install apps a whole lot easier. I want to be able to install apps with greater ease than Linux or BSD will provide but don't have to be as easy as Windows. Kinda in between Linux and Microsofts' Windows operating system.

Thanks for any help given on this matter and for any time you have to spend on this matter as well.

Well, you're pretty limited, Linux, Windows or BSD seems to be the choice. Linux is probably the better one if you hate MS that much. Try mandrake, that's pretty easy to get the hang of.

Moved to software

You want an OS that's in between Windows and Linux but isn't either of them? Does that even exist? Maybe BeOS is still floating around somewhere... :D

I just want an alternative operating system than can install proggys easier then Linux can. Or is there a way to unzip and install programs in Linux or BSD via GUI instead of command line because I'm unable to get Netscape Communicator 4.77 to install in Linux no matter how much I've tried.

I spent 100 dollars for that piece of crap. I would be better off using Mandrake and Wine before that piece of crap. I emailed them just about a week ago and requested my money back and speaking of money back I'm going to check my VISA credit card account to see if I got the credit. Lindows was just as hard to install Linux and Windows apps as Mandrake or SuSE was to install apps. But it was a good suggestion tho but I wouldn't recommend spending 100 dollars for Lindows when it just as hard to install everything as Mandrake is. I'd just save you money and get Mandrake for free and install Wine for free and do everything you were going to try with Lindows but still have that 100 dollars in your pocket so you can have 100 dollars more for the 400 dollar Gforce video card assuming you don't have it already.

I'm sick of paying that c**k sucker Bill Gates all that frekin money for their OS when they keep on putting back doors and **** in their OS without letting consumers know that they are doing it. They say their using their back doors for legal purpases (they don't quite say it that way). I bought my computer and I purchase internet service for my use not Microsoft's USE of my computer. My brother works for a division of the CIA and he tells me the Government is getting ****ed off at Microsoft for their frikin back doors they put into their OS. This whole security thing is going on partly because the Government told them to fix this sh*t or will pick another OS and company. By the way my name on this forum is an alias for other reasons regarding let's say "protection".

I just don't want to do business with a company that uses back doors in thier product for thier own gain. I will if I have too but it's just the principle of the matter that I don't.
