bdsams Veteran Posted October 24, 2005 Author Veteran Share Posted October 24, 2005 Why do you Americans always think that chucking money at a problem will solve it? It's not just Americans, but you're the only ones that advertise it openly. Donating to charity seems to somehow wipe your karma clean for some strange reason. Now donate the money you saved by having not-very-taxed petrol compared to Britain to UK drivers, that would make a difference ;) 586701529 because everyone organization needs money have you every tried to donate and have them say " no no, we dont need money" 2.31 gal :)
pepo
*ps a mod should make this a sticky whistle.gif ... and rename it whiny, wasteful, lazy capitalists. 586686584 what in the world? Well, considering that people around the have already been paying these rates for years, and their rates are going up, I don't really think anyone in this thread has anything to complain about. Not to mention that the vast majority of the world doesn't even have the ability to have a car at all, let alone massive, gas guzzling SUVs and luxury cars that use far more resources than necessary. 586696886 First of all I hope I die before we lead to complete lack of resource of anything here on Earth, or rather we don't run out of anythign while I'm alive for the next 60 or so years. :p But the thing is we need those big cars, now I understand that alot of people drive these for fun, but most use them for work as someone already said. Over at Europe gas prices are twice as high if not 3 times, than U.S. However, you can't ever say shut up and stop complaining about inflation, because it is a wide spread problem among the public, the world. You can't stop people from talking about inflation, because you don't like it when prices rise for anything really, I mean how would you feel if you bought milk for $3 the other day, and it costs you $30 now. If you're rich and don't really give a damn about it, then it doesn't matter for you, but it matters to the majority of the people. Do you really thing people in other countries don't complain about it, it's not just U.S. I mean I've been to other places, and I come form other place, so I know. It's normal for people to complain aobut it, because it is a major problem.
Mr. Golden Deal
All of the people I know who drive SUVs don't need them at all. I'm sure that there are some people who need powerful vehicles for their jobs, but seriously, remember that the 'S' in SUV stands for sport, as in totally unnecessary. The vast majority of the driving world can get by on a 4 cylinder sedan. Also, other places are complaining about high gas prices, but North America still has significantly lower fuel prices. pepo
That doesn't mean U.S. shouldn't complain about it, it is still inflation. It's human nature to share one's thoughts, and when prices rise, it's human nature to think about it, and it's never a happy thought. Just because someone suffers more than you suffer doesn't mean you should shut up. For instance you work all week, for nothing, you go to school almost all week, you have tons of homework, and you have no free time at all, exept during you precious 6-7 hours of sleep during the night, but on the other hand there's a child somewhere that hasn't ate nothing for the past week and has absolutly no way of surviving, should you not complain about you having to work and go to school and do all that, just because there's someone that suffers more than you do. There will always be someone somewhere that suffers more than you at anything. So you say people should never complain about anyhting, which is impossible, as I said it's human nature. Mr. Golden Deal
It's not inflation, it's an increase in price. Inflation would be if the U.S. Treasury dealt in crude oil, not gold.
Whiffle
Gas prices havn't really even kept up with actual inflation anyway, if they did it would be more expensive. remember that the 'S' in SUV stands for sport, as in totally unnecessary. Don't forget that the 'U' stands for Utility, as in useful. I can't think of a car that I can fit all of the stuff I own into to get me to school, or carry a fully assembled car engine, or 5 people and all their backpacking gear, or can pull a 5,000 pound trailer. (all of which I have done) Last time I got gas....couple weeks ago now it was $2.49 I think.
Mr. Golden Deal
Also, notice that the 'S' comes first. There are non-sporty UVs. The whole idea of a Mercedes SUV or something equivalent is purely a status symbol, and Hummers just are for making a statement, mainly one starting with "A fool and his money..." I just hate getting lumped into the one big category with the BMW X5 and the Mercedes thing and the Porsche/VW things, all of which I think are a disgrace to the SUV term. None of them really have much utility to them, and as you said are all about status. I don't think I've ever really seen one with a tow hitch on it, no wait, scratch that... I saw a supercharged porsche with a hitch on it hehe. I bet that would be interesting with a load behind it...

Inflation would be if the U.S. Treasury dealt in crude oil, not gold. 586725064 But that's what inflation is, increase in price of overall goods and services. If the price of gas goes upward, the price of everything else goes up: Inflation.

Sandor
you americans and canadians need to get a grip. in the UK we pay the equil. of $5.70USD for an american gallon (3.8litres) and you are crying over half the price. also bear in the mind that the UK has more proven reserves than both the US and canada and you can see how great you have it. we have the oil on our proverbial doorstep (eg, the north sea) and we produce more than we consume yet still we get skinned alive for it. you pay about the equil. of ?0.32 a litre for fuel. i dont remember fuel prices as low as that here in my lifetime and im 21 years old. when i started riding a scooter about when i was 16 (so 5 years ago) the price was about 60p a litre. almost double what you pay today. wise the FK up and stop crying. Jadepixel
Yes, in the UK and parts of Europe, one tank of gas can reach up to 120 USD or more, When i was in Europe, Gas prices were shockingly expensive. you americans and canadians need to get a grip.in the UK we pay the equil. of $5.70USD for an american gallon (3.8litres) and you are crying over half the price. Though this i cannot agree with. Gas prices in the United States and Canada have remained steadly low for the past 2 decades. Back in 90's no one would ever think that gas prices would close in on $2 a gallon. Though once it did, prices continued to soar. In 2005 prices hit past $3. In your scenario, what would you do if your gas prices went up 2 dollars and stayed. That would be quite a big deal. Also our prices nearly doubled at some points. What would you do if yours doubled? Just because pays more per gallon for gas doesnt give you the right to scold our country because we're angry that prices have increased so dramatically.
