pinoy_storm
I am setting up a test pc running xp home, and have installed it with a variety of browsers for purposes of testing website viewing compatibility. So far i have had trouble installing a version of IE5.5 onto this machine as when i run the installer it detects IE6 and fails to proceed for reasons of a newer version being detected. I then tried to remove IE6 from the computer through the add/remove windows components, and was successful as best as i could tell, the IE icon had disappeared from the 'open with' right click menu, the desktop, and from all start menu instances. The program files folder was also reduced in size although a few folders & files still existed, the purposes of which i am unsure. When i tried again to run the IE5 installer it still failed to continue for reasons of detecting a newer version. Is it impossible to truly remove IE6 from XP? and if so how may i test website compatibility with IE5 without presumably digging up an older pc with an older OS and using this? thanks for the replies, if any... Tomo
If your website looks ok in IE6 then it'll probably look ok in IE5
kizzaaa
If your website looks ok in IE6 then it'll probably look ok in IE5 586365305[/snapback] I agree, and I didn't think it was possible to downgrade Internet Explorer on a Windows XP Based computer. +Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted August 16, 2005 Subscriber² Share Posted August 16, 2005 Also, what % of web users are still on IE5. Sure I'm all for testing on different browsers, but isn't this being a bit picky. Also, you could say Hi to all the old security holes of IE5 if you ever gave it connectivity.
