Quick Questions while were on this topic

How many kb/second do burners burn at on

24x

and 32x

eg in that pic 40x is 6,000kb/s

at 24x and 32x what are the kb rates?

Thanks.

Every 1x you add 150kb/s

But anyway 40x is 40x max, it doesn't really achieve that speed until the end of the recording process. It starts at around 18-19x.

nomis_nehc:

I have a 40125W o/c to a 48125W

and Lite-On's have Smart-Burn

what it does is check the media in the drive and tells u max speed

I bet whats happen is you've only got a cd that is capable of doing 40x burn so it says 40x

If you take out the media and re-check nero settings it should say its capable of 48x as there is no cd in it :)

Osiris:

24x burns @ 3600KB/s

32x burns @ 4800KB/s

yeah, you can but it depends on the media... not all of them can do that so you'll need to do some testing...

I don't think 48X cds are available. So you can't burn at 48X if the CDR doesn't allow yah, especially if it's the good stuff cuz they lock it.

48x is VERY misleading anyway...

the CD will start burning at 24x with this liteon and then only get up to 48x near the end of the burning.

P-CAV or CAV = gradual increase

Z-CLV = stepped increase

When writing CAV drive doesn't stop to change speed

When writing Z-CLV drive stops to change speed.

Newer liteOns use the better CAV writing method.

ALL OF YOU are incorrect... except for Maxillion Arturo.

There is only one type of CD dye that can go up to 48x.

That is not Phthalocyanine, which can only go up to 40x. The 48x dye is an organic compound dye.

And I have done speed tests, it never goes over the max, in fact, it is very low on the outside edges.

/though I really doubt it's Nero's fault... btw, it's Nero v5.5.9.0

EMAIL Them, Bug Report do something :)

maybe its becuase you need special media to run @ 48X?

I have the same problem, I have a Yamaha 24/10/40, and I can't write cd's at 24x only on 16x. I have Nero 5.5.8.2 and it says "Write speed changed due to media" and it is writing on 16x since the begging off the CD. I have tryed differnt types of cd's that support 24x. In CloneCD 4.0 too only at 16x! I have WIndows XP Pro!

Any sugestions?

actually, that screen shot was taken with no media in the drive. so :ermm: dunno what could be up.

but right now, I have somewhat come to a conclusion though: it's both the media and the software's fault. seemingly the only software I can use even to burn at 40x is the following: Nero, DiscJuggler v4.x (I am not home, so I can't be exact with the build), and CloneCD.

Though those couple apps is usally enough for most, I have special needs sometime and uses CDMate. CDMate only allow me to burn at max speed of 32x. (It's because CDMate allows up to 128 characters, Romeo Format, for filename)

And to point out something to those that may be wondering: when burning at such high speed such as 40x, I think it's better to shy away from any intensive apps while burning. Unless you have raid or scsi setup of course. Besides, I think you can spare that 2 minutes of practical idleness. :)

[edit]

Ok, heh, goofydave, you are partially right. I disabled smart burn and check the info again, and voila, 48x. :)

btw, what media are you guys using for 40x~48x burns?
