Cannibal Corpse
Hi All, I would like to know if I should get a GeForce4 Ti 4600 to replace my current GeFoce 2 Ultra 64MB, instead of upgrading my PIII-850 CPU to a P4. I also happen to have 1GB PC-133 SDRAM for Memory. So a new CPU or VIDEO CARD? p.s. I am playing WARCRAFT III and it rules! (but I need a faster video card) Many thanks in advance. tomwarren Veteran Posted July 4, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 4, 2002 Personally I would buy a nice Athlon XP, new mobo and a GeForce 4 Ti 4400
Cannibal Corpse
I only have enough money to buy a GF4 card. If I upgrade my CPU, I have to upgrade my MoBo, RAM and it adds up real high. With my current setup (PIII-850MHz, 1GB RAM and all....) does upgrading to GF4 make a HUGE difference? Thanks again!
gandolas
well... a GF4 is allways a GF4... do you get it? ;) a lot of new improvements, new things that speed up the games... i have a tnt2 vanta (over 2 years old) and i'm going to upgrade to a GF4 Ti4200... i want a Ti4600 but i don't have the $$$... :(

mDagar
That pIII 850 will be the bottleneck if you go and buy that Ti4600. So you won't get the performance that you want. I'd go with a proc and mobo then wait a bit to buy a new vid card. By then, prices should have dropped a bit.
SimGuy
How about purchasing any of the NVIDIA DX8-compliant video cards, such as either a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 or a GeForce 3 Ti 200. Both cards kick ass and you will notice a difference in gaming (more so if the game is written to take advantage of DX8 and NVIDIA's programmable GPU's). For value performance, go for the GeForce 3 Ti 200, moderately priced at $215.95 CDN ($140 USD). For the utmost in game performance (with the exception of the Ti 4600 and the Ti 4400), go for the GeForce 4 Ti 4200, moderately priced at $235.95 CDN ($155 USD) Your P3-850 is adequate for the time being, but I would seriously start considering an upgrade in the near future (6-to-9 months), but upgrading the video card now to the best that you can afford means that you won't have to spend that much more when you overhaul your system. SDRAM + Geforce4 = Poor Performance IMO, i sugesst DDR or RDRAM.
