Windows Vs Processor speed limit

Recommended Posts

I read at local website (indonesian) that Windows Xp have limit at 6.6 Ghz processor speed.

can somebody clarify this true or not ?

and why Microsoft give this limit ?

and for Vista do they will add some hidden limit like this again ?

I think it is not a good idea

Yea there's a memory limit of 4gb for xp pro, if you got more u'll need xp 64-bit it has a 16gb limit.

Processor limit, hmmm never read that in my mcse study material, but I'm sure there's one thats hidden.

It's not like it won't work with faster processors, what the site could have meant is that maybe XP fails to perform any better at a certain point because it's just not means for speeds like that. I don't think it's an actual limit Microsoft has implimented in the OS.

There's no limit on how fast the CPU can be, and if there is, there are technical reasons for it. The only reason XP supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM is because a 32-bit OS cannot address more than 4 GB of RAM.

Windows XP does not have a built-in speed limit for CPUs. I'd say that you are reading about someone overclocking their CPU too far (making it perform fast but unreliably) and they couldn't boot Windows. If you were to get ahold of a true 6.6ghz, that was not overclocked but designed to be that fast (reliability), then Windows would boot up properly.

Yeah.

((2^32)/1024)/1024 = 4096 MB = 4 GB

There isn't a memory limit in XP. There is a 4GB limit so you have to buy the data center version that does like 32gb or 64gb more than likely.

There are and have always been processors that are higher than 10GHz. MIPS and ALPHA's have broken that a while back for data servers. I'm not talking about with clustering either.
