Jasonw15
Hi guys! For all you Vista testers out there, I made a feature request list of various suggestions I've submitted to Microsoft on Microsoft Connect, and I thought I'd share them with you guys and see if you like and agree with my suggestions, and if you do, please vote for them with a "5" rating and tell Microsoft why you think they are good features. If you don't like some of my features, please just don't vote instead of giving one of them a "1" rating, as I'm trying to get as much positive feedback as possible. Thanks you. Ok here's the list... if you're a Vista tester, tell MS if you like these features and vote for them... :) ........................ 1. Add Office 2003 style menus to Windows Vista: Let's face it... Windows plain text menus are boring. It would be great if Windows Vista got Office 2003 style menus. Click here for the example picture I sent to MS but you can't access on MS Connect. Go to https://connect.microsoft.com/feedback/View...FeedbackID=4786 and vote for this feature and tell Microsoft why you think it should be added to Vista. 2. Bring back an ?Optimal? refresh rate setting from the Win9x era: I really think Windows should bring back an "Optimal" refresh rate setting that automatically uses the highest refresh rate available, at every resolution... in Windows and DirextX/OpenGL games right out of the box as soon as you install Vista... instead of manually having to choose "number" refresh rate values... Go to https://connect.microsoft.com/feedback/View...FeedbackID=2484 and vote for this feature and tell Microsoft why you think it should be added to Vist3. In IE, open ?New? windows maximized if original window is maximized:zed: One thing that has always bugged users is when a user has a maximized browser window and opens a link in a new window, it is not maximized like the first browser window.... it would be great if this was fixed in IE 7. (Ya, I know we have tabbed browsing now, but many people with high-res monitors still like to open new browser windows separately.) Go to https://connect.microsoft.com/feedback/View...FeedbackID=9533 and vote for this feature and tell Microsoft why you think it should be added to4. Add ?Anti-Aliasing? support for images resized in IE to fit the browser window: window: The feature that shrinks images to the size of your browser is great, but it doesn't use "Anti-Aliasing", so many images are often blurred and text is unreadable. It would be great if IE image shrinking technology used "Anti-Aliasing" technology. Click here for the example picture I sent to MS but you can't access on MS Connect. Go to https://connect.microsoft.com/feedback/View...FeedbackID=9546 and vote for this feature and tell Microsoft why you think it should be adde5. Add a ?Shrink to page? type printing feature in IE like Firefox has:Firefox has: One feature that has made Mozilla Firefox extremely popular is its ?Shrink to Fit Page Width? feature which automatically resizes the text and images of a site to fit the exact size of your paper. You can find this feature by opening Firefox, clicking ?File? and clicking ?Page Setup?. It would be really great if a feature like this was added to Internet Explorer in the ?Page Setup? dialog box. Click here for the example picture I sent to MS but you can't access on MS Connect. Go to https://connect.microsoft.com/feedback/View...FeedbackID=9543 and vote for this feature and tell Microsoft why you thi6. Allow users to change the icon size on both the left and right side of the Start menu: ght side of the Start menu: I really think it would be great if users could change and adjust the size of the Start menu icons on the left and right side. There could be an options tab in Start Menu properties and users could adjust the size of the icons there. Click here for the example picture I sent to MS but you can't access on MS Connect. Go to https://connect.microsoft.com/feedback/View...eedbackID=10028 and vote for this feature and tell Microsoft why you think i7. Add ?My Videos? folder to right side of Start menu:der to right side of Start menu: The one thing I think is really missing from the Start menu is the ?My Videos? folder on the right side along with the ?My Documents?, ?My Music? and ?My Pictures? folders. In today?s multimedia world, the ?My Videos? folder is just as important as the ?My Music? and the ?My Pictures" folder. Go to https://connect.microsoft.com/feedback/View...FeedbackID=9537 and vote for this feature8. Some suggestion on the ?Find? dialog box in IE:ista. 8. Some suggestion on the ?Find? dialog box in IE: In Internet Explorer, one annoying thing, especially when doing a lot of research, is that when you have the ?Find? dialog box open, as soon as you navigate to another page, it disappears and you have to open it again to use it. I really think IE 7 should change this and make the ?Find? dialog box stay ?Always on top? and always stay open when navigating to a new web page until the user closes it themselves, instead of disappearing like it does now when you go to a new website. In addition, it would be nice if you could select ?Search current page? in the ?Search? text field in the upper right hand side of IE. Click here for the example picture I sent to MS but you can't access on MS Connect. Go to https://connect.microsoft.com/feedback/View...eedbackID=10200 and vote for this feature and tell Microsoft why you think it should be added to IE 7. ........................ Well, that's about it folks. If you like any or all of my suggestions, please vote! Thanks. I'll post more suggestions as I come up with them. Also, if you have any of your own feature suggestions that you've submitted to Microsoft (they have :) already be submitted), post the URL and description here and we'll vote for them too :). Lighthalzen
Even though I am not testing Vista, I think your suggestions are great and should be put in! :D

LTD
So, you're actually submitting this to Microsoft? Although it is a fact that some MS employees do indeed look in on Neowin now and then, I'm quite encouraged by the fact that you are submitting some of our suggestions directly. My suggestion: I'm not sure if this is implemented, but . . . . The Start Panel (or it should be at least embedded in some Window) should have a list, or easy way to access directly, most frequently accessed documents/files. The stuff you work with on a daily basis, perhpas categorized by filetype.
Angel Blue01
Add support for somethign other than WAV files for sounds. Add a new folder button to the toolbar. Improve cursors -make animated ones the default. Allow animated icons.
y_notm
5 is already in vista, 7 is coming as the "Pictures and Videos" library is developed - Pictures and Videos will be displayed in the same Virtual folder. Actually, I believe that is already the case, they just haven't updated the link caption on the Start Menu
fred65
- I agree totally with maximising IE windows. - There should be a keyboard shortcut for New Folder - The Windows key should be taken full advantage of (more shortcuts: My Computer, Calc, notepad, paint etc, including ability to customize) - Status bar should be turned on by default (IE and Windows Explorer) - Instead of those annoying Move To and Copy To, there should be the Cut/Copy/Paste buttons by default - Dialog boxes/control panel applets should appear in the taskbar instead of hiding behind everything (vista shows promise, as RUN and Copy/move appear in task bar. - Ability to pause copy/move tasks would be cool, but i guess not that useful - I like the Office menus too. Make all menus uniform like this would look good. yeah, there are more, just cant think of them right now. Thats great that you're posting directly, it has the best chance of consideration!!
