i got the abit at7 and love it... :) What are you using now? If it's ok then wait a while till the KT400 chipset comes out. Abit will prolly have an Abit AT7 V. 2.0 and i'll be getting it :) Prolly just replace the KT333 chipset with the 400 one and prolly an integrated VIA southbridge with USB 2.0 and Serial ATA so if you can wait... wait a lil while when they come out.

this is what i currently have

Gigabyte 7DX

1.2ghz Thunderbird (burnt! *sniff* I cant still smell it LOL :s )

ATI Radeon 8500 64mg

256meg DDR266

AT7E = $121

AT7 = $151 (with the addition of raid and firewire)

I've been doing some homework and the ABIT AT7E looks real promising and its cheaper than the AT7........I don't use raid and firewire anyway so why pay an extra 30 dollars.

SHOTTA: do you think KT400 would have much improvement over KT333? maybe a tiny little but is it worth the wait and the money?

sorry....how I burnt my processor is confidential....i do not wish to reveal it....I might make me look even more stupid :paranoid:

*sniff* geez I can still smell it :s

that sucks man. check out www.amdmb.com and their forums, there's a lot of good info there. i remember when i built my first athlon, i was so paranoid cuz of the horror stories i'd read about frying it.

If you want to overclock, go with the ABIT, if you want stability and a naturally faster board, go with the Soyo. For the last year or so Soyo has been cranking out some marvelous stuff, I am on a Dragon+ right now and I like it alot, not a whole lot of OC's flexability. Love the board tho.

Yeah, I guess they haven't idiot proofed them as well as Intel has idiot proofed their cpu's.

IMO, Abit mobo's are less that desirable! After having to RMA several of BE6II-RAIDs, KG7's etc... They're nice for OCing but in the long run... ASUS has been the best board for reliability... I work as a sys integrator for a VAR.:ponder:

Here is a suggestion. Buy a motherboard that has that cop(cpu operating protection) meaning the system shuts down when the temp hits 82C. I know Asus ,Soltek, and MSi has this technology.

Note: This tecnology only works on the Athlon xp chips.

P.S The same thing happened to me, My cheep cpu fan died and the whole thing went up in smoke. Now I have a Asus a7v333 and xp2000 chip
