dazzacole
Any comments on the quality of DVD playback and Icons in Vista. My DVD quality is very poor and icons look blocky and pixilated. This is at 1280x1024 and some of the larger views in folders are like looking at Google Earth images from a foot above the ground. Bliss Background image, taskbar, Glass and IE are flawless quality so its not my vid card, 6600GT agp which worked glass straight up with the vista drivers unlike others. My installation of Vista can't run PowerDVD or any other DVD Player program, and Windows Media™ Player becomes unstable when playing a DVD Video. However I've tried viewing a MPEG 2 Video and other AVI video files and they run fine - smooth and high quality. eXsub
dvd quality is down to your video card. unless you really want to run it with your software, which would be a very bad idea.
Commodore Max
Try updating your drivers, are you running 75.03 ? If you are, try this: http://board.iexbeta.com/index.php?showtopic=56877 A friend of mine modded some Nvidia 77.72 drivers to make them LDDM compatible .... You can get to higher res and OpenGL will work normally.
dazzacole
I had no trouble with 1280x1024 and glass effects directly from start up with the Vista drivers and the nvidia alpha drivers. dvd quality should be awesome with my card as it is on xp but alas it is not, its almost like the only high res images are the background and frames. I'm not going to bother with it anymore hopefully it will be better in beta 2 and they handle legacy media devices better as at the moment they don't seem to at all, which can be shown by looking at media control devices under sound and game controllers in the device manager. cropcircles
The icons are huge. 32 I believe by default and won't be adjustable until beta 2. The glass effects are cool. Surfing the web appears to be faster then XP for most people. I'm good with graphics but sound is not working on my rig. Looking forward to beta 2 at this point, not expecting much more with 5112. Getting rebooted at times when attempting to install a driver that doesn't like my sound card. I've had to manually remove sound drivers from the XP windows explorer because when I would boot back into Vista it would continue to install the bad driver or .dll. Big improvements since 5048, but what can you say about that build. Long way to go. Maybe some surprises at PDC 05".
