Jm1397
I have a RAID motherboard with the options of off 0 and 1. I want to add 1 more CD-ROM drive (read speeds) and one more hard drive. I do not want to have the drives melded as 1, and I do not want a backup of it. I already tried leaving the raid off and just plugging in the CD, but this did not work, BIOS did not recognize that. How can I make is so that I can view the CD-ROM and HD as singular drives, not as badups, or strippers. (Data stripping)
RazerBack
There should be jumper settings that you might have to switch around to disable Raid.
Jm1397
no no no, I want to use the IDE ports for the devices, by default the RAID option is disbaled, except my BIOS does not recognize anything other then the devices on the first two IDEs
Nude Rooster
I have seen some boards that will allow this and some that dont. There should be a jumper on your motherboard, not in your bios, that will allow you to change it from a RAID controller to a basic additional IDE controller. I cant say that I am familiar with that mobo because I dont buy ASUS. But read your manual about the option. Again, 95% sure it is a jumper on your mobo and not in your bios, at least on my board and all that I have worked on. When you flip that switch in the bios it isn't turning raid off and turning ide on, it is completely turning the controller off. Gotta find the jumper that switches it. caustiK
not sure about that mobo, but here's how my abit (via chipset) works: first 2 ide's support all drives, but the extra 2 on the raid controller on accept hard drives (raid can be enable/disabled) - not atapi devices (cdroms, dvd, etc. - i think that's right), so it may be the same for yours - try just hooking one hd up if you haven't already :)
RazerBack
If you see Raid in there anywhere, then Raid is probably enabled. There was a problem with my mobo and manual. They had the Raid jumper settings reversed. I had to load up specific drivers during the installation of Windows to use Raid.
Jz1397-4
thanks, I did not realize that the 3rd and 4rd IDEs for raid did not recognize atapi devices
