Tikimotel
Older programs (half-life,etc) have troubles with these drivers. They work fine on my SB-Live Value, but I downloaded the compaq drivers (softpac) 377MB. http://www.fdrsoft.fr.fm/liveware.htm
Tikimotel
and windowsupdate wants to update these drivers with, it's own 2602, Creative WDM drivers... so you'll always have an update available when checking for updates.
caustiK
all the threads i've seen (on other forums) really recommend these drivers - my experience though hasn't been so great - i can't change the volume through windows - it's either on or off, so i'm forced to use the speaker's controls, plus my tv tuner card cuts off volume whenever i switch back - hmm... i think i'll switch back - i say try 'em and see, if you don't like 'em go back :)

I'm thinking of trying again though..

(or something) mine took a while and there was no harddrive activity so I figured it froze..
freeza
i sure do have an SB Live! value and it shows up as that also :) volume controls calls it a..... SB Live! Audio [DF80] here is what i did extract the exe you dowlnoad from compaq uninstall any previous sb live drivers/software (it may prompt you to reboot but dont) run regedit or jv16 powertools and delete all "Creative Tech" keys from the registry go to the device manager and "update" the sb live drivers manually (or if they really did uninstall choose "scan for hardware changes) choosing the option that shows a list of drivers then clicking have disk and pointing to the compaq folderaudiodriverswin2k_xp and the one beginning with a W it should proceed to install , it may prompt you to restart, if so ignore it, then do the same thing to the gameport...when thats all done..exit out of the device manger and proceed to reboot IF you dont want the surround mixer installed or any other software from the Compaq package......if so then ignore the restart prompt and run the setup inside Compaqaudiosetup it may say it cant detect any cards....if thats the case then IM me for a file that you will need to replace. once replaced run the setup and choose custom install (unless you want every single thing it installs) and choose what you want installed INCLUDING the windows drivers...it will do its thing, reboot and all should be well you can go in windows(winnt on 2k)system32 and delete the following files "devldr32.exe" "devcon32.dll"

Malechai Veteran Posted July 8, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 8, 2002 ok freeza I did what you suggested and it installed this time, though I've noticed 3 things that I'm hoping you can confirm. 1) When I go to check the properties of the sblive in device manager, click the driver tab, it says "not available" next to driver version. is that what you have? 2) The creative launcher software didn't install, even though I told it to.. 3) The volume is quieter at the same settings than my previous drivers. Did you find it got quieter? btw thanks for all your help

freeza
yup......mine says not available also volume got a little bit quieter which meant i could turn the master volume up more and pump the bass up more and not have it sound like crap....(it's a good thing if you think about it) im not sure about the software mine installed fine....altho the surround mixer didnt want to work right until i got rid of all references to the old sblive drivers i had,,,,by deleting the registry entires before installing the new ones....and deleting the Creative folder in program files prior to also make sure "devldr32" is unloaded from memory also since you wont be needing that any longer with these drivers

freeza
nope you dont need it at all infact i've deleted it lol if windows will let you delete it then its probably not loaded you can check via task manager though
Malechai Veteran Posted July 8, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 8, 2002 ok cool i'll check it out when I get home. (edit: really quick tho..how do you know that the new drivers dont use that file? I'm curious. did you read it somewhere?) these new drivers rock though! they've fixed the problem with WMP XP missing the first 1 or 2 seconds of a song when you open an mp3 or wma... and also fixed that damn crackle with Windows Messenger! :) I'm sure theres other crap but these are great drivers
freeza
they did??? sweeeet .....i always hated that problem in XP i might go back to it after sp1.....who knows. :D anyway the SB Audigy drivers dont use devldr and since these are based on the audigy drivers mainly ...it doesnt use the file because it doesnt install a newer version of it and when you uninstall the old sblive drivers it gets unloaded from memory and it doesnt seem to load back up with these so i assume its safe to delete cause i have and havent seen any problems since :)
Malechai Veteran Posted July 8, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 8, 2002 wicked! then this should fix the errors that some people were having in devldr32 eh? i'm gonna delete that biotch when i get home. muaha  thanks for the step by step big F ;)
