Sapphire 9800 Pro 256mb 3D Drivers not working

Recommended Posts

Hi I installed the beta from MSDN and I have pretty much got my system working except for 2 problems.

iTunes plays songs all speeded up and jumpy. But I uninstalled it and am using Media Player instead.

But my biggest problem is my 3D card not working. I have installed hte BETA drivers from ATI and I am still not being able to use any 3D apps and my DWM windows vista features like glass skin do not work.

Here is a screenshot of the DxDiag window and the device manager.:

I have tried everything from old drivers that dont work with Vista to completely wiping the drivers and reinstalling them after reboot.

Can anyone out there with a bit more knowledge than me help me out please, thank you.

Nope, when installing the ATI drivers its like the default drivers are still there.

I dont understand the BETA drivers seam to be the same as the ones that were already there when I installed Vista, the LDDM's where there when VIsta was installled,

but in display manager it still says I am not using an ATI card, and in DXDIAG it says I am using vga.dll instead of the ATI ones.

I am gonna try installing the standard drivers for ATI, the catalyst 5.7's see if that causes anything to happen, last time it said I didnt have an ATI device! lol

This is the final thing for me to fix on the Longhorn/Vista Driver for it to be useable, its the only problem I have come across with the whole beta so far!

  • 3 weeks later...

Its not that nobody wants to help its just because sound isn't working for allot of people as there are only a few drivers that work, and if they don't work on your rig then you'll just have to wait until beta 2. Be patient and remember its just beta 1, and for MS and the Longhorn/Vista project beta 1 is more like prebeta alpha.

there has been many other threads about this, for me and many others it just works after install without needing any additional drivers. Im guessing it might be a motherboard chipset issue.

my system

9800pro, intel i865 chipset
