Vista Installation Wont Finish

Recommended Posts

When I was installing Vista, it went fine until it reached the phase after the reboot where it said "Completing Installation. Do not restart your computer at this time". It was at that phase for nearly an hour and it didnt finish and I had to shut it down. I formatted the HD and reinstalled it and it was the same. Does that step normally take longer than usual? What is wrong? Please help.

FYI, this was the second and third times I ran the install. The first time I reached the login screen but I could not log on. I read a post on Pro-Networks where somebody else had the same problem and he or she got it to work by reformatting and reinstalling but for me it didnt.

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

That stage of the install can take some time to finish - like it says dont restart the PC while its finishing the install - it does take some time to complete.

since the hardware driver configs are not finished for windows PE yet (the installer), vista takes up to 3 hours to install (about 1.5 hour average) some people who have the driver configs that are done already have a quick time installing, but this is kind of rare right now. MS said by beta 2 it will be much better time wise... I know for me on 10 machines it takes about 1hr to 2hrs depending on the hardware right now

Huh

That's take like 1 hour if you install Vista with XP, but 15 with a boot ;)

not for everyone it doesn't.. one of the biggest beta compains is the install time on a clean install with a blank hard drive. A majority of people are reporting times over 1 hour to complete.

Aaah, so it takes a while? Whoops, now i'm gonna have to install it again >_<, no hard drive light was flickering for about half an hour, and the bar was finishing at the same speed every time, so thought it had frozen on something.

yes beta 1 takes a while and looks like its in a never ending loop but it isnt... they said they'd streamline the installer by beta 2 to provide better feedback

  • 3 weeks later...

Yeah I think it should be normal too...for long hours, esp. if your computer is slower (processor- and hdisk- wise). I got one friend who took around 3 hours in an not-so-ancient computer.

Tu parle fran?ais?
