My main problem was the SBlive/VIA chipset issue..which was admitted to 2 months after my move to an AMD solution and a fix implemented 2 months after that by updating the BIOS. Once I did that, my system has been rock solid, like I said in my previous post. Only thing that remains is poor USB performance.

pebcak my ass. why do you need to troll?

how am I trolling when I'm actually staying on topic? Don't go getting your knickers all in a knot ffs.

I'd agree about the stability problems with the AMD chip. I moved from an Intel P2 300 to an AMD 1ghz about 2 years ago, and damn did I have problems getting it to work right. I had to tweak this, change that, install special fixes... it was crazy. I eventually got it rock solid but it involved BIOS updates and tweaks.

Your problem wasn't with AMD it was with the makers of your mobo.

don't contradict what freeza is saying.. he obviously has a point, i had my fair share of a yrs worth of overheating in my laptop with an AMD processor.. the only good thing that laptop was ever good for was heating my room in 13 degree winter weather, which was a lot cheaper than paying for gas to heat the furnace in the cellar.. was much more effective in getting me warm ::shrug:: i'm sure you had quite a few problems with your amd.. and im sure you're gonna say you havent, yet you're gonna stand your ground because you believe that intel is a poor processor, no matter how many problems you may have had with your amd, you will be stubborn and stand your ground.. i have a broken fan for my processor, and we just had 107 degree weather.. sure my poor tower was hot, but guess what? it didnt fry or decrease in mhz.. now..... if that were an amd with a broken fan in 107 degree weather.. talk about watching sparks fly :)

Just more FUD IMO, I doubt you ever owned an AMD cpu? matter of fact, you sound too stupid to build such a system. you're trolling, go somewhere else!

I had a hp omnibook laptop with an amd processor and the fan actually did blow out on it. Just sitting with it on your lap was enough to literally burn the skin on your legs if you were wearing shorts but it never failed once.

In that same situation a p4 laptop would heat up or burn your leg too, if the fan had blown out.

nah, with such features as speedstep it would throttle down

i have an HP pavilion zt1000 notebook with a celeron processor running at 1.2 ghz and it doesnt burn my leg at all...i mean it gets warm as any notebook would do but it doesnt make me feel the need to take it offa my lap cause it was getting too hot

the fan turns on and turns off all the time infact its on right now but it isnt burning

btw OT: does motherboard monitor work on this laptop or any HP laptop?

After bad experience with a AMD 486 133, A K6 500 and a Athlon 700.

I will never touch one again, I understand they can't be that be that bad anymore but Ill allways buy Intel now.

My P3 was rock solid and now my P4 is excelent.

I think the extra cost is a non issue I know Its worth the extra cash to get it to work and not risk any money on AMD I've wasted enough in the past.

Let's see you bought 4 different procs from AMD now you'll never go back, do your friends have Pentiums? Do you want to be as cool? You probably jump bandwagons all the time.

No I originaly thought that there should be no difference and Intel was ripping people off.

But after my long time experience with AMD i will not chance my money when there is only a small difference in price between the two.

yanno if you didnt want alot of people going against your "statements" and you saw all the other previous threads that you read about amd vs intel, why create another one? are you attention-seeking? me, freeza, and chrisnelis obviously had experience with an amd to favor intel over it, it's not that blind to see that.. we're not people who just got pcs and since we have intels we declare that it's the best thing out there, we HAVE tried them, we DONT like them for our own personal reasons, we ARE entitled to our own opinions, and you did start this thread, remember...

I have an Athlon XP 1700+ desktop. Never overheated, never had any compatibility problems. Also have a pIII-M 1ghz laptop. Love both of them. Built the desktop under the specifications of what I wanted out of a desktop. Extensively researched the components. The one I built does nicely. Purchased the laptop because it fit the specifications of what I wanted out of a laptop. Extensively researched the brands, makes and models. The one I bought does nicely.

I'm sorry, but I'm not a fanboy. I cannot relate to any of the stories most of you are talking about because gosh-golly, they've never happend to me. This is my second athlon. Never had a problem with the first one either. Based on my experience, my next processor will more than likely be an AMD. Why? Well, logically, if it works for me, why switch and spend the money for the "performance gain" of a P-(whatever is current when I get it).

From someone who's not had a serious computer crash or, hell, even a problem for the past two years or so, most of these arguments seem quite silly. I gotta agree with Wicked Kitten (no matter how much it hurts) that most of the problems are pebkac indeed.

One last thing...ending up a discussion with insults on grammar and punctuation are a weak way out. If you've got nothing valid to say, then shut up. I'm pretty sure most intelligent people will be able to gauge the validity of a comment, reguardless of small grammatical errors. :right:

hes the one that had to go and say i was stupid just because i had my own opinion on amd, and valid proof of why i don't like amds ::shrug:: no matter how intelligent you try to make a statement or a conversation, grammatical errors still make you look stupid, it was common sense on the contraction, and common sense on how to correctly spell the right form of "too" for the sentence he was using

Yo, pIED pIPER,

stfu!!!!

people have preferences, some like AMD, some like INTEL.

Who cares whether they are biased or not, consider their stymulus, be it peers, a bad experience with one or the other, or just plain personal preference.

what kind of shoes do you own?

I could say mine are better because of the brand or they cost more or look better, whatever.

Your point is MOOT!!!!
