mAcOdIn Veteran Posted August 18, 2005 Veteran Share Posted August 18, 2005 Background is I'm white. I don't have a problem with any race, however it seems to always end up that way. Anyone who acts like the rappers on TV I just tune out and can't hang with. There's alot of Hispanics, Asians, and other Caucasians that I'm cool with, but very few African Americans. Unfortunately in my area the stereotype seems to only get re-inforced here of the rap, urban, black image. But that's not based on color but actions, I also ignore any white or hispanics that act the same way, never seen an asain person acting similar, but hey if I did I'd ignore them to. I'm tired of the thug mentality.
vincent
example:other people: "oh..my..god. you have such good english!" me: "i was born in jersey." other people: "oh." 586395817[/snapback] OT: other mexicans (from mexico) are so surprised when i start speaking spanish ie ordering food at mickey d's, the girl at the counter (whom's number i got afterwards :shifty: ) was like wow you look like you don't speak spanish, so i asked her. What brought you to that conclusion? And she said i don't know. So i replied with: "Don't ever judge a book by it's cover, and the crazy things is how much relevance that saying has STILL has to this day despite how old it is. El Bourricot
I tend to talk to the person in question and stay away from those who try and act "rapstar" (be them black or white - or even asian in some sad cases). Apart from that it's entirely up to what the person is like and whether they can deal with my constant mocking of everything (myself first - one has to laugh at oneself before one can mock others) and they realise I'm not really serious. But you can't really live in London and be xenophobic. It would be like living on an island and being hydrophobic.

A similar scenario is presented at the end of one of my favourite episodes of G.I. h3xis
i get along fine with "minorities" of all kinds. i don't even think of people as being minorities, really. however, the area i live in has quite a bit of african americans who all seem to think they're in some gang. because of this, i'm starting to assume that most african americans have that "black attitude" where they think they're "gangsta thugs" and nobody can touch them. i know there are neowinians here who act like this. if you don't want to be treated as an inferior then don't act like one.
