Thunderbird01
Hello! I have a problem with my disk... I want to install vista but I don't know where!!! I have a 40GB HDD but it's all partitioned for winxp (NTFS). What can I do to install vista? AH! I have another pretty old drive 10GB. But i don't think will be allright to put it on my new PC. What do u propose? Note: Please do no tell me about Partition Magic and Acronis disk director because u must pay for them, and there's no other worthful program. +BudMan MVC Posted August 18, 2005 MVC Share Posted August 18, 2005 If your looking to resize your partition - so that there is unpartition spaced to install vista on.. Here you can do it with FREE tools; http://mlf.linux.rulez.org/mlf/ezaz/ntfsresize.html#example # Download the SystemRescueCD ISO image (100 MB very useful softwares). # Burn the ISO image to a CD. # Boot from the CD and hit <ENTER> when you see the message "Boot:". # Enter run_qtparted when you get a command prompt. # Select your disk on the graphical screen. # Select your NTFS partition to be resized. # Right click with the mouse and choose Resize. # Set the new partition size. # Commit your changes in the File -> Commit menu. If your keyboard and mouse stop responding during resizing then please just be patient.

+BudMan MVC Posted August 18, 2005 MVC Share Posted August 18, 2005 Yes you can use the 10GB drive - worse thing is it would be a little slow.. What speed is the drive? ATA66? Or have someone that has highspeed (everyone else on the planet) download the 100MB ISO image, take a couple minutes tops. Head over to your local inet cafe, bring your usb thumbdrive.. Or fire up a wireless card, more likely than not you could access a wifi connection in your area and download it ;)
+BudMan MVC Posted August 18, 2005 MVC Share Posted August 18, 2005 YAO - where you do not have to download anything. Wipe your drive and reinstall windows, this type partition the drive as you want. IE leave some unpartitioned space you can play with vs giving the whole drive to the windows system. All can be done with your windows install CD. Thunderbird01
Oh no! i have another problem.... When i begin the setup i recieve this message: "Installation detected 224MB of RAM, but 256MB are required. Setup now will close." Why I have less memory? It seems like my pc doesn't detect the correct size (256MB). I haven't seen this before. I know that most times memory is more than the standard... Am I right? vertigosity
Chances are you probably have 256 megs of RAM in your machine, and an integrated video chipset eating X amount of that (where X is about 32). You could get around that with some clever hackery that I'm not aware of (nLite can remove this limitation on 2k and XP, but I seriously doubt it's been updated for the Vista beta build), or by turning off your integrated video chipset and grabbing any pluggable card you can find (even if it's complete trash - it'll let you reclaim your RAM and install, and if your onboard is better, then you can remove the card later and it should be fine. Either way, you barely have enough RAM for it.).

+BudMan MVC Posted August 20, 2005 MVC Share Posted August 20, 2005 Um I have vista networked just fine, access to and from other window machines and samba. What network card to you have - is the driver installed? Give us some details of your problem - and then maybe we can tell you why.. Are you running dhcp, or did you setup static ip? Are you wired or wireless, firewall?, etc.. etc..
Thunderbird01
the drivers are installed ok from the vista installation. VIA Rhine II Ethernet adapter is my network card. The problem is that when I click on the "Setup a home or small office network" icon, I recieve this message: "Error loading hnetwiz.dll - The specified module could not be found." What's this?
