Elliot B.
She was admitted to hospital following a fall at home and never regained consciousness. She had previously suffered a brain tumour. Ms Mowlam, Labour MP for Redcar between 1987-2001, oversaw the talks which led to the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. Garry
As much as I dislike politicians in general, it was sad to lose Robin Cook a fortnight ago - a man who really took a personal stand against something he really didn't believe in and now we lose Mo Mowlam, another upfront person and truly a politician for the people. TwoTailedFox
she was just on rolfs portrait show a few months ago! 586402455[/snapback] And that as repeated tonight on BBC2. Robin Cook and Mo Mowlam were two of the best politicians to emerge from the New Labout Government. Their outspoken ways merely showed a government it is never always right. Soham
Britain's former Northern Ireland Secretary, Mo Mowlam, who helped secure the province's 1998 Good Friday peace accord, has died at the age of 55.A family spokesman says Ms. Mowlam died Friday morning at a hospice south of London in Canterbury. Friends say radiotherapy treatments Ms. Mowlam underwent for a brain tumor had affected her balance. She recently fell, hit her head and never regained consciousness. Ms. Mowlam, known for her lively and direct style, was elected to parliament in 1987 and became Northern Ireland Secretary in 1997. She withdrew from politics in 2001. Both British Prime Minister Blair and his Irish counterpart Bertie Ahern paid tribute to Ms. Mowlam for her energetic efforts on behalf of peace in Northern Ireland. The Good Friday peace accord halted decades of sectarian violence in the British province. VOA
