+Fulcrum Subscriber¹ Posted July 6, 2002 Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 6, 2002 hey guys, I have a problem with Bootvis, I tell it to stop tracing, but then it starts it again. Just came back to see my computer out of Memory...
0 Tesseract
it has not yet optimised your boot time, right? if it has already optimised it, nuke it thru task man.
0 +Fulcrum Subscriber¹ Posted July 6, 2002 Author Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 6, 2002 What name does it go under, I dont see it, nor is it in my Startup processes (msconfig). This is terrible, it dropped me to 0bytes! and I had to delete some documents in order to re-extract it and stop tracing!
0 Tesseract
not sure, but it should be "bootvis". if it isn't, find the program that is not usually running in the background and kill that one. :)
0 +Fulcrum Subscriber¹ Posted July 6, 2002 Author Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 6, 2002 I honestly dont see anything out of the ordinary running.
0 Tesseract
Not even on the applications tab in task manager? try posting a screen shot of your processes tab of task man if possible.

0 Tesseract
Recieved your screenshot: I don't see anything that may be bootvis, in fact the "system idle process" is showing 98% CPU usage because your system appears to be idle. is bootvis trying to run while other apps are running? it is starting up when windows is starting up......either let it go about its tracing (prolly won't work for you since it runs out of memory for ya) or remove it from startup. Two ways to find it: 1. Look in the "Startup" folder for it. 2. Use msconfig (start, run, type msconfig), go to the services tab and/or the startup tab and see if anything out of the ordinary is starting up (bootvis may in fact be a service, this may be why it is not showing up as a process) EDIT: This may have something to do w/ your problem. Hope this helps.
0 +Fulcrum Subscriber¹ Posted July 8, 2002 Author Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 8, 2002 not there man. msconfig shows 9things, none of which are Bootvis, but perhaps you could better explain them for me; nerocheck.exe (I have Nero Burner software) winampa.exe (I guess this is winamp agent) taskswitch.exe (prolly that powertoy) NAV antivirus qttask.exe (quicktime?) printtray.exe (do I need this?) daemon (daemontools) styleXP Microsoft Office (do I need this to run Microsoft Word, etc..) You don't need Microsoft Office to run MS Word or any other MS Office program. I would kill it. I don't know if this will work or not, but go into Msconfig, select diagnostic startup, press OK and reboot and see what happens. All those startup items may have something to do w/ bootvis not working properly.
0 +Fulcrum Subscriber¹ Posted July 8, 2002 Author Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 8, 2002 I doubt I need any of those anyway, since Im sure Nero will run without the nerocheck.exe, and d-tools can be started manually..printing im not sure, anyways i'll give it a try! 0 Tesseract
I see this entry called "devldr32.exe". Do you know what it is? I am thinking this may be bootvis, but I am not certain. If you don't know what it is, kill it. If the computer crashes, just restart it (hope this won't happen, it should not happen).
0 giantsnyy2002
devldr32.exe is a virus. I had it on my system a while back. Its some type of backdoor that um... takes up your cpu

0 Tesseract
Here is some info about devldr32.exe, from http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/strangeservice.htm: devldr32.exe: This is installed if you have a Creative Sound Card (SBLive Series that I am aware of...) It sucks up 2.3MB to 2.6MB, but I have not completed extensive testing with this NOT being there... After manually killing the process (this is not a service, it is listed as a driver in the hardware properties of the sound card) I loaded up a game of Dungeon Siege and all EAX features and 5.1 positional sound worked (with EAX on or off.) Also, all Direct Sound tests completed without errors. Do not get excited, though. After renaming the process, the Windows File Protection dialog pops up. Upon reboot, devldr32.exe is not displayed in the active processes in Task Manager, but the Creative Mixer and AudioHQ applications fail to load. I also searched for a reference in the registry and found little to nothing... Kill it if you want to recover some memory.

I don't think it is a virus, but it apparently causes problems for some reason. You could send me the file and I could see what a virus scan says about it. EDIT: I recieved your screenshots. The second one (w/ bootvis), did you select optimize system under the trace menu when you used it? Just wondering. And it does appear that bootvis does show up in the processes tab after all as bootvis.exe
