thollian
Apparently, Office 12 will include a new Ribbon system replacing the current toolbar. They did that because so many people hated the Office 11 look. 586422848 whats wrong with Office 11 look? I think it looks awesome, compared to previous versions... The "ribbon" will be much more contextual. For example: you click on a table in a document the menu would then change to the most relevant items for a table. Think of "ribbon" as contextual tabs. Hurmoth
I know that there won't be a huge improvement, not really a need for this, but I am curious to know if there will be a 64-bit version of Office 12

bryce_56
I would hope that MS creates a 64 bit version. I don't think that it make sense that MS wants everyone to use 64 bit version of XP but all of there software does not support 64 bit. I know that some of it can be run on 64 bit but it does not take advantage of the 64 bit architecture. Sorry I had to vent.

Ribbons sound like a big productive improvement, InfoPath 12 Server sounds like a big improvement and you will be able to control a InfoPath form in the browser like you would in the client and it will fully support 3rd party browsers such as Mozilla FireFox. And yes, there will be a 64 bit edition of Office 12, actually all editions of Office 12 and stand alone Office 12 apps will natively support Windows x64 out of the box. Also Exchange 12 will support 64 bit, Exchange Server 2003 presently does not work on Server 2003 x64. Outlook 12 will also support RSS, better calendar and task management. Excel chart graphics will be on par with mac version of Excel (everybody should be crying tears of joy over that).

I should have added that it wouldn't be a huge improvement in performance. Sorry.

What's new for stand-alone users? 586439661 A new way to prevent us from installing only the componets we want and the paper clip is intergraded into the sidebar wich is no longer removeable also calls microsoft and tells them if your on an illegal versoin of windows ohh did i forget to say the toolbars will be bigger? and noncustomizable? i really dont know but i hope its nifty
Kaidiir
for those who don't get chosen for beta testing....it's not like we'll miss out. if anything was learned with the beta of Vista it's that these things "get out".

Sorry. 586439647 Well, the features specific to Office 12 would make the 64 bit edition worthwhile to the Windows x64 user anyway. I can definitely see how a 64 bit version of Excel would be awesome for intense number crunching (data analysis). Its not really a matter of features but a matter of being platform native and utilizing underline power of 64 bit Windows.
