Office 12 Beta 1

Excels multi-threaded re-calc should help too...

Exactly. And remember, all editions of Office 12 and standalone Office 12 apps will natively support x64 out of the box, meaning, it will install the appropriate code according to hardware architecture. 32-bit Office for x86 Vista or XP, 64-Bit Office for x64 Vista or XP. I don't know if they will give the user the choice on x64 Windows to install either the 32-bit or 64-bit Office during setup.

I can't wait to see what Microsoft will show us at the PDC ... Office 12 should be one of the main features of the expo, along with an Interim Build of Vista.

At tech-ed all they talked about was the file formats....hopefully the PDC has a lot more detail.

I was in the beta last year on Office 11... do i need to register on the above site given so i can be in the new beta?

Don't they choose us automatically?

Registering at this site does not imply that you will get selected to participate in the beta. It is simply for people who would like to stay informed about the upcoming version of office.

From what I have heard, select MVPs are already in the Office 12 beta.

MVP's often get early access & special con calls so they can ramp up to help support the community.

It said "You will get the latest news" and so on, but the part i am interested in is "Aswell as the opportunity to test it"......

It didnt say "May get the chance" it said "Aswell as the opportunity" - Does that mean i am down to beta test it when it ready for testing?

Also, when is this due to begin testing?

When depends on where in the testing cycle they let people have an oppertunity to test. They haven't yet hit Beta1 so it isn't time to worry that we won't be included...

It seems the rage at MS these days to do CTP's so that isn't out of the realm of possiblities at some point in the testing cycle too.

Some how I suspect Office 12 will be christened "Office for Windows 2006" or "Windows Office 2006". Anyone agree with this?

I doubt it. Especially the first one: "Office for Windows 2006", which makes it sound like there is a Windows 2006 on a quick glance

I think maybe it could be Office V or something related to vista, even though it's gonna come out later than Windows Vista itself. Remember the vice-versa example for Office XP?

I hope they don't put a 'Windows' inside, at least, just continue to make Office for Macs. Those are even better than their Windows couterparts, just like in Msn Messenger and almost all the other multi-platform software by Microsoft.

Apples take in small particles better.

I'm hoping its called Office 2006 (but then I hoped for Windows 2006 as well ). If its called Office Vista, I'm not buying it :p Just kidding, but since they did WinXP/Office XP, you think they'll do WinVista/OfficeVista?

I have a feeling now that it might just end up being renamed Office Dynamics 2006, since they are integrating Office more with their ERP tools such as Axapta, CRM, Navision, Solomon and Great Plains solutions.

Microsoft Office Dynamics 2006 Professional - sounds good to me.
