sigh* my HD died any way of fixing it??

Recommended Posts

i have a Quantum 30 gig HD

a few weeks ago i got a message as my pc posted "hard drive failure imminet press F1 to continue"

when i got into windows i noticed everythng was EXTREMELY SLOW!!

in fact it took 30 mins to boot up windows in SAFE MODE!!!

so i fooled around with my pc for awhile n' somehow when i reseted my bios the message dissapered!!!

so i contiued using my pc for another week before i noticed a slowdown AGAIN!!

but this time the slowdown wasn't as extreme....it was just a little bit laggy at times...n' i thought i was just imagining it!!!

so i thought it would be wise to get a new HD...rite after i backed up all my data onto my new hd....the next morning it stopped working (i was sooo lucky i bought a new hd just in time!!).......

i got a message something like hard-drive not found!!

please insert boot disk to continue!! (even when my new HD was plugged into the primary IDE port)

the only way i got my pc to boot up was to physically unplug the old HD!!

does any one have any way i can "resuce" my old HD??

or at least can someone tell me what went worng with my HD???

thanks!

Hi vodkacow,

I'm in the middle of restoring my 80gb and I'm using this:

http://home.arcor.de/christian_grau/rescue/index.html

It's a pretty cool prog. BUT.....after finding you're lost stuff, DO NOT shut down before xferring the found data to a more stable drive. It is NOT a good thing, as Martha Stewart might say these days. I had to shut down (not by choice - the beastie locked up) and am now finding my lost drives again.

ANYWAY...I wish I could be of help but the wonderful guys here at Neowin are who I went to for help!

good luck!

:D:D:D:D:D
