WebOrbiter
My Specs: Athlon 1.33Ghz T-Bird Alpha 8035 Heatsink 256MB DDR RAM @ 266Mhz Visiontek 64MB Geforce2 Ti 2x40GB Quantum Fireball 7200RPM Hard Drives Promise ATA100 Raid controller MSI K7T266Pro-R Motherboard SB Audigy Gamer Logitech iFeel USB Mouse 1280x1024x32bit@100Mhz (19" LG Flatron) WinXP Professional My Problems: - USB Mouse disappears and reappears at random, sometimes never to come back until reboot - USB Self-powered hub will only be recognized as bus-powered and wont run anything - Games like Tribes 2 and Jedi Outcast can't be run at full quality w/o terrible frame rates, even at 800x600! Even medium quality isn't fluid. - As fast as my specs seem to look, my computer runs slightly faster than my grandmothers P2 400, I read Microsoft has an issue with RAID and has a patch, but they wont give it out til SP1 - My HD specs at MadOnion have me about par with 1 5400rpm HD - I can't install any Nvidia drivers after 21.83 or else my computer crashes as soon as I click the Start button or right-click the mouse. - Can't install more than one RAM module into the motherboard or else it won't POST I have reformatted several times with same results, even upgraded to geforce2 Ti from Pro. I heard the early KT266 motherboards had some issues but Im not sure what they were and I'm totally lost as to what's going on. I talked to my online retailer and they said it sounded like the motherboard, but I'd have to pay to ship it to them, so they would ship it to MSI to test, and it would all take about 8-10 weeks! I am at my wits end on this one, what should I do? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :bandit:

WebOrbiter
Yeah, it probably is a mainboard problem. It works fine other than the problems I posted earlier. The main thing is you get a real sense of all around slowness, like everything is running at half speed. But what should I do next? Should I go ahead and dismantle my PC and send the MB out, or spring for a cheap new one w/ Raid like the ECS K7VTA3, or should I hold out for the "Clawhammer"? :bandit: P.S.: Microsoft recently posted a recall on their mice for the same symptoms as my Logitech, I'll call them tommorow about it
caustiK
if you wanna check your other stuff before sending back the mobo, here's what i'd do: 1. take all your cards out, and reseat them one at a time, see if it's slow after every card or w/out any 2. make sure your ram is in the first slot (check your manual) and then try putting in more 3. try and find some newer drivers for the promise card, or if it's on the mainboard, find the via raid patch (i think that's a via mobo, correct me if i'm wrong) 4. try and find a newer bios 5. install different 4-in-1s (again if it's via) the usb stuff is almost always mobo related - took me forever to fix mine - same symptoms as yours - failing that rma that baby and tell 'em they should pay shipping cause they shipped it to you defective - usually they will (in my experience) - good luck :)
