You do not have permission to share this item.

Hey Neowin,

I'm trying to make my C: drive shared, so I can map to it from other computers. I absolutely hate using the Shared Folders and crap. When I tried to share my C: Drive, I get a dialog saying "You do not have permission to share this item."

Any solutions?

Thanks.

Edit:

XD Nevermind, I just went Right Click> Properties (Rather than Sharing), then hit the Sharing tab.

Thanks anyways. Guess this can be an answer to anyone else with the problem.

Windows networks are hard enough to configure on XP ... I haven't really gotten into networking with Vista yet, but I'm sure someone can help you. In the meantime make sure you submit this bug to Microsoft.

I dont get it.

What bug is it that he's supposed to report? The "I don't know how to right click" bug?

Sorry Glass, but XP is by far the easiest flavor of M$ to network so far, I'm sure Vista won't be any different.

Glad you got it figured out stadsport...

Well, from what I know

Right Click > Sharing= Right click > Properties > Sharing

I always go to properties first and then to the sharing tab, but when I do "right click > sharing" directly I have no problems.

I normally right click > Sharing to get to sharing properties on a drive. I had forgotten you can also Righ Click > Properties > Sharing. They take you to the exact same place, it's just a bug.
