ACTIONpack
I been using OneCare for about two weeks now. I like it and I don't like it. I been using Norton Anti-virus protection section version 2000. I really like it until version 2006 beta was release and it was too much in your face with every problems comes up. Not because it was in beta and the software was crash but because it did crash. But I did add a second icon and pop up message about update software and do a full virus scan. By then I didn't want to use it. I use AVG free version and it was good of what it did but look at dated and full scan took over 6 hours. I sign up for OneCare a month ago and I final got the chance to try it out. The GUI is the best one out there but they need to put buttons instead of text link and need to show a second window that it's looking for update like other anti-virus. I think Microsoft is trying to make it so that your not using a anti-virus program and if any virus goes in to the system it will take it out and not even tell you. Which I don't like that because I would like to know if I get a virus, so I know not to go bback to a website and I know the OneCare is really working. I know it's still in beta but I do think it's slows down my computer sometimes. Would like to know if any other beta testers for OneCare is thinking this way? bangbang023 Veteran Posted August 26, 2005 Veteran Share Posted August 26, 2005 I like the fact that OneCare is very unintrusive. The fact that they are even considering making the balloon tips optional is great. I want something that can work effortlessly in the backround without me needing to hold it's hand along the way. What better protection than the one that works so well, you don't even know it's there?
Hurmoth
^ NOD32 already does this. I have it on my system and after setting it up once, I haven't heard from it at all, not once. It does it's updating without me having to tell it too, it scans the system without me having to see some annoying popup for 30min-1hr. NOD32 is perfect for someone who doesn't want their hand held. As for OneCare, it is alright but I do have a few complaints about it. Such as the backup process  I don't want a million CDs for just one backup and with the amount of music I have (which I do want backed up), it would a lot discs to complete the backup. I want more options for backing up my files (i.e. backup over a network, backup to a compressed file and then let me put it where I want too, backup to another hard drive, etc.). I also don't like the fact that if I turn off the backup process, ballons start popping up warning me that something might be wrong and I should check it out :pinch: But those are my little rants. :p
shihchiun
It's not bad, although I'm pretty sure it's slowing my system down. It doesn't show up in task manager as using a lot of CPU cycles or memory, but I definitely feel it. It feels very basic in that there aren't many options for anything, and it's quite slow when scanning things.
Lee G. Veteran Posted August 26, 2005 Veteran Share Posted August 26, 2005 I've been using it for a few days now (there was a delay in getting my PID). It's discrete and does most of it's tasks quietly in the background. It is quite slow though and I agree, more options would be better.
Commodore Max
I like OneCare, the UI is clean, and like BangBang said, it's really not intrusive.
loeakaodas
I have been using it for a few days now and I have to say that it is nonintrusive and does everything in the background. However more options would be good and I think it uses a lottle too much resources, my machine seems to be slower.

mcgwire3
I've been testing onecare for about a week now, and the UI seems really nice and overall the performance has been great, and I don't have any issues complaints as of yet.
JiveMasterT
just got the invite today and i found a whole bunch of problems right off the bat and now im trying to remove it... but theres a bunch of problems... 1. the firewall blocks like everything and never prompts me to allow or block stuff. 2. when i tried to uninstall it, it tells me it is not installed and that there is an unknown error. 3. it corrupted my system restore so i cant even roll back to the other day when all of my internet applications worked with the firewall turned on. does anyone know how the hell i can get rid of this thing? ive tried everything... it keeps coming back! fels
I did beta testing with OneCare before it was released to public, and the complaints you have definatley grow on you the longer you had it. Although it did cause quite a few crashes for me.

I haven't had any problems with the firewall and MSN 7.5. But over all, I like OneCare because I would usually wait 2 hours for my anti-virus scan, and then wait to defragment. I like OneCare becuase it does all of that over night so I don't have to wait anymore. What I don't like about OneCare is how it freezes your computer during a tune-up. BiGdUsTy
I've been testing OneCare as well and it needs alot of work. On the very first virus scan it locked up scanning it's own files. I agree with Hurmoth about the backup issues, i think a trip back to the drawing board is needed. Also the firewall is going to be fun for the normal user to figure out. The UI is ok with me however its a little slow to load.
Garrett Socling
There was something about OneCare that immediately put me off. I think it was the feeling of being trapped by the integration. Really rubbed me the wrong way for some reason. Reminded me of Symantec SystemWorks. JiveMasterT
worked for me, all i had to do was restart gaim 586528444[/snapback] i tried that... no luck. but it was the same thing with multiple programs... including MS Outlook. I did notice that on this install, the apply button actually had the Y in it, so they are updating the thing... ill try it again later on.
