JimM17
Hey i got a little problem with my comp. For a year or so it was running great (keeping in mind the necessary format/reinstall of the os) but recently its been rebooting randomly. I thought it was just my xp installation that was screwing up but even after a reinstall the problem persisted. I really dont think it is software related because even during the reinstall of XP it rebooted again. I suspect that it may be something with my soundcard because it seems to happen more often when i am doing anything that uses the sound. Either skipping to the next song in winamp or changing sound options in a game or something. Im really just curious if anyone has gone through anything like this before and maybe what they think of it. Thanks.
flakingbiscuit
brownouts maybe?? or a power supply problem?? those are my guesses. [edit]i dunno how a soundcard could cause a computer to reboot randomly, but then again, i don't know much about sound cards [/edit]
undeRliRcs
I had this problem since I installed XP too, but it turned out to my video card. After I got the latest driver from Nvidia, my machine doesn't reboot randomly anymore as it use to about 10+ times a day. Try getting the latest drives from the company of your sound card or video card and see if that helps. Good luck!
vodkacow
it also could be your CPU overheating if the cpu starts to overheat, the computer automatically reboots 2 try n' save your cpu from burning up! c if the fan in your cpu died oh and i also had my pc reboot alot cuz of the xp video drivers after updating the drivers, the rebooting stopped!! it also could be a power supply problem if your computer is ancient, then it could be because the power supply is getting old n' it can't provde a constant suppoly of the requured voltage!
