Overheating problems!!!

Recommended Posts

Ok, here's a question for all you hardware geeks out there. In July it's really really hot in Chicago. The temperature at my house has been 82 F for almost a week now. The heat got my comp to overheat a buncha times. Ever since I bought my comp (last summer), I had overheating problems with my cpu, but until now I used to bypass them. Thenormal temp of my cpu is around 62, 62.5 C. The alarm goes off on the mobo when it hits 70. This goddamn heat even caused me to run my cpu at 1.05 Ghz instead of 1.4! I know T-birds are hot, but shouldn't be that hot. Currently, I'm running my system with 8 fans, including a desktop fan which blows right at my cpu as I am typing this. :( I tried everything in order to keep it cool but it's just impossible. Pleast tell me what I could do, and please don't say watercooling or any of that. Oh, and btw, I have a full tower case. I know it was a stupid thing to buy but that's what I have and now I regret buying this stupid case. PLEASE HELP! See hardware specs below. Thanx guys.

by a window a/c unit for the room the computers in, but don't keep the computer right next to it, in case of condensation.

edit - use thermal paste like arctic silver instead of the heat tab, on your Heatsink Fan.

I can't it's illegal in my complex but thanx anyway. O and is there a way to somehow change the threshold of the alarm on the mobo instead of 70 to like 80?

Hmmm well if your system is really getting that hot I don't know if it's safe. But in your bios there should be an option in PC health, or something similar. Be careful

You can probably change the alarm in the Bios, I wouldn't suggest it though, a T-bird should not be running that hot. I know this is a stupid question but you do have a fan and a heatsink attached to the cpu, right? The desktop fan blowing on the cpu kind of confused me. All you could really do is either get a new heatsink/fan ( I would suggest a copper heatsink and atleast a 4500 RPM fan). BTW, watercooling... I wish I had it. Also my house was in the 90 F this past week and my cpu was at 62 C, so yours should be fine in that heat.

i wouldn't do that......... 70 is pretty high, the temperature is pretty high around here rite now and my cpu is running at 52C on full load

Just remember if you do turn the alarm off and it reaches the limit, the cpu can burn up quicker than you can kill the power.

damn u guys are so lucky, crap i dunno what to do and by the desktop fan i meant a normal household fan. aah! Arch and Rudy, what kinda cpus u got? oh and theres no way to change the threshold in the bios that's why I asked!

And one more question: Is adding more thermal paste bad for the cpu. I heard it like suffocates it or somethin.

I have an AMD T-bird 1.33 GHZ, its currently underclocked to 1.00 GHZ right now though because I tend to 'enjoy' braking parts off of my motherboard then sodering them back on :ermm: . I guess it doesn't like that too much. The lowed speed doesn't even lower the temp for me either. Also don't add more thermal paste, and if you already did you should take some off. You just want a very thin film on the CPU to fill in those microscopic valleys and such.

yes that's why they are cheap i know. They're good CPUS and everything but too damn hot. And no, i didn't add any and i know i shouldn't. ;) Maybe a new case for cheap? ANYONE SELLING CASES FOR 30 $ or somethin??? lol

if you're doing all that to cool it down now do you really think a new case is going to solve everything?

well, actually yeah. You see, I bought the system with my friend, two exact systems which are in perfect working order. Except he has 3 fans and a midtower case, and he lives right next door to me. So maybe there is reason in that.

Hate to say it but, if your hsf is already using a good thermal past than short of keeping the house cool, watercooling and a crazy deltafan hsf may be your only options.

Omg i fixed it! I flashed my bios and i guess it fixed something with the thermometer on the mobo. Now, im at 61.5 in 84 degree weather. Sweet, hey im happy. And the thing now lets me change the threshold. Y didnt i do this before??? Well, thanx to all of you. I appreciate it.

1) Li-Lian / Lian-Li (Forgot)

2) Go Pentium.. comparing it to the T-Bird, the TB is hot as ^_^TT;;

3) Possibly look into some Delta fans.. 8000 rpm
