Vista Blue Screen of Death

Recommended Posts

Hi all, ive got the Beta 1 dvd and tried installing on my pc but i get the Blue Screen during installation, after rebooting.

My hardware is as ff:

AMD 2.8Gig CPU

Gigabyte G 7N400 Pro 2

Geforce FX 5700

1.5 gigs RAM Kingmax Colour Modules

300 Gig Seagate SATA HDD

AOPEN DVDWriter

LG DVD Rom

2X 17" Samsung LCD Monitors (only connected one)

MS Wireless Keyboard & Mouse

Ive taken the rest of the hardware out before i installed. (like TV card and creative sound card).

I know the dvd works cos i tried on a friends pc.

no it doesnt - ive even tried it on my wifes pc, same thing, but the same disk installs on my friends pc - he has a AMD 64bit cpu.

did you download the 64bit version?

no not at all - its the 32bit version. ive tried 8 times already today.

installs (the green bar) half way then says it needs to reboot, so i click on the reboot button, then it shows the setup screen, then hangs abit (mouse) then reboots, after the Longhorn startup logo the blue screen appears.

You didn't specified if you had a 64 bit CPU, maybe it's the 64bit version (wich doesn't work in 32bit CPUs)

if it was the 64bit version then it wouldnt even get so far in the installation.

That's weird. I suggest you report this in Connect ASAP, if you're an official tester ...

Try installing it without the AMD CPU overclocked to 2.8Ghz, as no CPU from AMD other than the "AMD 64bit" line comes with speeds of 2.8Ghz which suggests to me that you've overclocked.

What does the BSOD say exactly. I know there have been stop error due to memory and other such problems. If i knew exactly what it said i might be able to help more. Also i have heard that Vista is picky about AMD processors. Since it is overclocked that might be your first problem. Take it back to stock speed and see if that helps. Other than that need to knoe BSOD error.

i had this problem and had to make sure that all my usb devices were disconnected i think it was my PDA interfering

once it had gotten pass the hardware detect stage i could plug back in and all was ok

oh and i had same issue on 32bit and 64bit versions but both worked ok after

My AMD 2.8 is not overclocked. I cant remember exactly what the BSOD said :(

ive unplugged ALL my devices, TV CARD, Creative Sound Blaster Card, USB devices (except Microsoft USB Wireless Mouse & Keyboard),

I guess ill just wait for Beta II or Need for Speed Most Wanted :)

Is it aq 2800+ or is it at 2.8Ghz? They are VERY different things....A 2800+ is an AthlonXP, and a 2.8Ghz Amd is an FX-5, hehe.
