Yeah, I remember it. I even used it for a few months. Whats with all the specifications what are you advertising for them? A moment of refelction with a link is fine but it almost appears to be spam.

You missed to include this "The NeoPlanet browser is currently not available for download. Please check back in the future for more information."

;)

It's quite scary, mind you :s

eeewww.... But it surely ain't as scary as 3B which by far is the worst browser I ever have tried. It survived a mere 30 minutes on my harddrive, and that was on a day when I was in a unusually generous mood.

Odd that they write that Neoplanet currently is not available for download when in reality it is. Ahh-well can't say that I care much though, I am perfectly happy with my current browser of choice.

I remember that, it used to speak "neoplanet online" in a First-person-shooter type voice each time you started up.

Did it have its own rendering engine, or did it work on IE/netscape?

I'm pretty sure it was just using the IE engine. It was cool browser though, I loved the startup voice.

Ah, yet another "remember Neoplany?" thread. Look folks the browser is dead. Despite the fact that Neoplanet has promised to bring it back sometime in the future (for quite qwhile now), it's dead! It's sucked donkey nuts and was really nothing more than an advertising portal.

Seriously folks, if you really insist on digging up the dead, dig up one of the old threads while you're at it.

Ah yes, good old Neoplanet.

Oddly enough it used the Gecko engine and not IE but even as time has pretty much passed it up, it does still work quite well over IE7-B1 with Admuncher one of the few adblockers that actually works with Neo.

Heck, I even have my Neoplanet shirt they sent me before they moved to Arizona and their final demise!

P.S. DON'T DOWNLOAD THE NEOPLANET FROM THE NEOPLANET.com site, it is the old version 5.1 which has the Flyswat spyware...best do a search for 5.2 to download, no spyware in 5.2.

Neoplanet was initially released in the fall of 1997 to use IE's engine. Support for Gecko wasn't added until April 1999. ;)

Q: What is the "IE Settings" option for?

A: Although NeoPlanet Browser controls the interface, IE controls a lot of the background browser functions. Therefore, in order to change certain browser defaults, you will have to change them as you normally would in the "IE Settings" area.

Specifications

The NeoPlanet Browser is less than 4.0 MB and is fully compatible with Windows 95/98/NT and IE4.0. The NeoPlanet Browser is also compatible with Windows 2000/ME and IE 5.5+.

  • 2 weeks later...

Glad this string came up, got to tinkering with Neoplanet 5.2 V-1740 and it is working quite well.

Discovered that Robo Forms works great in it so no more having to remember passwords and such, Ad Muncher provides excellent ad protection, stumbled onto two keyboard shortcuts, on for moving forward and backwards through sites using your mouse scroll button and the Shift key, can zoom a page big or small with mouse scrolling wheel and the Ctrl button and best of all Neoplanet behaves very well over IE7 Beta 1.

The guys over at the Neoplanet Underground http://groups.yahoo.com/group/neoplanetunderground/ are rooting up loads of skins...not ready to let this one die, besides...TV sucks!

I loved that browser. I hope they'll come up with a new version. Does anyone know why it was discontinued? I think it was quite successfull and popular back then.

The fun thing is that there are a lot of todays plugins that work with Neo as well as IE7 B1...it still has many miles left in it and looks are nothing, there are over 500 skins still floating around PLUS some new ones on the way!
