yannis
Microsoft Windows Explorer provides a graphical representation of the Shell namespace. The Shell namespace organizes the file system and other objects managed by the Shell into a single tree-structured hierarchy. "WinFS" uses Shell namespace extensions to provide a graphical representation of "WinFS" stores, shares, and items. This "WinFS" shell namespace extension allows you to manage the stores, shares, and items contained in "WinFS" by using Windows Explorer, as illustrated in the following figure. P!P
I tried it out.. still too early. First, it added about 15 seconds to my boot time. Once the UI is loaded that is. I looked at its process and it went to 100% for about the first 10-20 seconds after I started up. Memory usage was also quite high. It went down to some normal levels after that, its basically just a SDK kit anyway.

P!P
channel9.msdn.com has released a huge movie with the developers of winfs all about the beta 586454937[/snapback] Yup, I watched it this morning. Good stuff. Explains what WinFS is. I think they actually called WinFS a file system if I remember correctly. Which isn't really true.
Antaris Veteran Posted September 1, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 1, 2005 I think what they meant was 'WinFS + NTFS' is the final file sytem.
