BroChaos Veteran Posted July 9, 2002 Author Veteran Share Posted July 9, 2002 well i finally got a chance to mess around, it's definitely detecting the drive as PIO 4. i just enabled dma in bios (it was disabled), rebooted, and it still said PIO 4 in bios and in XP. i'm using a 40 wire cable for the secondary IDE. is there something i'm missing?:dead: [edit]it appears i've fallen behind on bios updates. there's a good possibility that this could be the problem, isn't there?[/edit]
Kosh Naranek
It's possible ! However, you might need to re-install XP to get DMA back on. There might be another way to force this, but I don't know how. I was forced to re-install my XP when Epox came out with a new BIOS wich had the "Enable UDMA support for CD" in it. The only way to get my DVD/CD-R to use UDMA was to re-install XP. BroChaos Veteran Posted July 9, 2002 Author Veteran Share Posted July 9, 2002 doh, that sucks. i'm gonna try removing the burner and ide channel from the hardware manager when i get off from work. then if that doesn't work, i'm gonna flash the firmware on the burner. Kosh Naranek: what epox mobo do you have? **EDIT** woot :D i got it to recognize dma! just had to remove the hardware profile for the secondary ide controller, and have xp reinstall it. thanks for all the help guys!
