Why would you switch to Vista?

Recommended Posts

No serieusly,

Why would you?

Its obviously gonna eat more Memory then XP because of all the effects.

And i doubt Internet Explorer 7 is gonna be super secure.

And think about the price its gonna pay!

What will make you switch to Vista?

It's faster than XP, it will be FAR more secure, sure there is eye candy, lots of new less important features, games will shut down everything not needed by the game to gain performance, virtual folders, even better indexing search than Windows Desktop Search and Spotlight, then later there is WinFS. Ah well there ar so MANY resons.

Same reasons i switched from 3.1 to 95 to 98 to 2000 to XP.

Its better. In almost every respect, its better. Even the betas now are showing that and they're not even close to being feature complete.

planty of reasons, there isn't a feature lock down yet so it's hard to tell...however..I would say there are reasons holding me back....I want to see what 10.5 have to offer also before making a decision again...

You may not like the glass interface, but a lot of people will. I personally like a simpler interface. The glass effects are awesome, but I turn them off after a little while.

Their will be options, classic will still be there. C'mon man I know that you know this stuff. Are you just trying to start a flamewar? We must progress and move on.

As far as price goes...

What percentage of people here paid for their current OS?

I'll probably use Vista a couple months after it's released, just so some more of the bugs are kinked out. Most of us remember how buggy Windows 2000 and XP were when they were released. But until then, I'll be happy with XP. I'm anxiously awaiting SP3. :)

It's a bit of a useless question and debate. I'm sure you're currently using XP and asked yourself if you would move from 2000 to XP. We upgrade our MS OS because MS decides so. The reason it is trying to improve it is to give reasons to the corporate world to upgrade. As well as to give enough candy so home users won't feel like they're running outdated technologies as they see all the cool stuff other OS provide. Basically, keeping us from wanting OSX and to venture too much in the Linux world.

Amazing phenomenon if you ask me... Windows is where it is today because it was adopted in the market place, which is all thanks to cheaper hardware from the x86 PC of that time. I'm tempted to add piracy as one of the reasons of Windows widespread use.

Perhaps amongst geeks. I can think of about 20 family members all of which have legal copies of Xp.

Do you really think that many people know how to find warez and burn an ISO? Come on!

Because:

#1 It will be far more secure to Windows XP

#2 It will / does already sort of, look a lot cooler than boring old Windows XP

#3 It will support all the cool new technologies

#4 Apple Computers are too expensive. :p

and don't forget, by than, Vista will be pre-loaded with all them Dell, and IBM and other companies, so for people who buy a computer from there on....they'll already have Vista...don't worry...Vista won't be lossing sales...

dude.. your looking at the obvious features. thousands uppon thousands are currently running windows vista.. and not that many complaints. windows XP HAD high system requirements too when it first came out, compared to windows 2000.

but it's like saying.... whats the reason of playing half life 2.. the system requirements are so high, and everything is gonna be slow... basically cause people want bigger and better stuff.

slow computers are a thing of the past.. and when the final of vista hits stores.. theres gonna be a massive line up and shortage of it.. just watch.

btw, if you seen a complete list of things added or changed in windows vista.. you'd probably need a full day to read it. theres a massive overhaul to windows vista. don't judge it just yet..

I meant in the early days of Windows. And its adoption in other parts of the world, such as Asia. Nowdays, if you buy a computer, it will most certainly come with Windows XP, and will come with Vista when it comes out. Many years ago, Windows was often still something you had to buy in extra, and for that reason, copies from the IT guy in the office, the neighbor and distant uncle were often use to install Windows.

I don't see a way in the near future for other OS to gain significant market share, except maybe for OSX, if Apple can make it affordable and convince people they can do all they were doing in Windows and not have compatibility issues when sharing documents and files.

Anyway, unless Vista is worst then XP, I don't see a way around not upgrading.
