vista..hard drive not big enough?

so i currently have windows xp pro installed with all my data aready on the hard drive. i used "Acronis Disk Director Suite" to create a new partition without losing my data. the program created the partition and i see it in My Computer. i went to install vista and i was brought to the screen where you select which partition to use..i chose the new parition i made and pressed next..but the installer said that there wasnt enough space to install vista...the new partition is 4.99GB....is that not enough??

5219 needs to see about 8.5GB, even though it's not even going to use half that ultimately. I don't know of a way to get it to use, say, a large data partition you might have for scratch space during install, instead of demanding the space on your target partition. It should do it automatically but it doesn't.
