Amazed. re-Installed Vista Beta 1 just after installing a temporary X300SE and *cool*, Vista is all transparent and does all these cool aminimations <- :woot: everytime I click and maximise / minimise windows. So very. V e r y, V e e e e r y cool.

I  what they've done with the new effects and can't wait for refresh or beta 2.

I'm in transparent heaven :innocent: Sexy, yeah!

NICE!!

What specifically ARE the min/max animations? How similar are all these animations to the animations in OS X?

The min/max animation is just fade in and out iirc.

they dont just fade in and out they also rotate up and back slightly with the fade like the window is falling backwards and forwards

it's KIND OF only KIND OF like when you minimize or maximize a application on the OS X Dock (let's please not get into an argument) however it doesn't really have "suck" and "pop" effect OS X have, it's kind of like...scaling down and scaling back up...however it looks nice..but makes me kinda dizzy...:p

however, in Beta 2, I think we can probabely see some full 3D animation coming up here and there..who knows...maybe in Beta 1 refresh? ;)

Hard to explain exactly but the window sort of "springs" into view, a bit similar but a little less overwhelming than OS X, I think. Impressive.

yeah..it's much more subtle but nice at the same time...it's not the same as the "suck" and "spit-back-out-your-application" animation on OS X  (not saying I don't like it :shifty:)

though i like the animations in Vista very much, i gotta say that the visual feedback of the wdinow sucking in to the proper minimized spot is a GREAT thing for the user cause he sees where the window went other than "it vanished!".

yes, that's actually the orginal ideas the guys over at apple had when designing the dock and it's minimize and maximize features because users don't only learn how to use a OS by trying it out, they also register visually and that's exactly what the effect are trying to do with the "sucking" animation.

Same thing MS is doing, although nothing as dramatic or fancy, it's still only beta 1. However what ever they do, they are for sure on the right track, many people (especially new users) like these kind of visual registrations when they us a OS so they know exactly what they do because a action is lead to a responding action by the OS it self. :)

MS had to do it eventually, they were falling behing UX-wise compared to OSX, so they just had to get something new out.

don't be so sure the MS guys are falling behind....Vista is promissing a full 3D GUI and that is ALREADY in the pipe line...I do not see apple doing anything TOO big to their GUI in 10.5...so..we'll see how it plays out..;)

I have an Intel motherboard with a built-in Networking 10/100/1000. It's by Marvell Yukon PCI-Express version. It's built into the motherboard and uses the PCI-E bus, but when I install Vista, it doesn't seem to detect it. There are no drivers for it on the websites or in the DVD of Vista. Any work arounds on this? Or am I stuck testing Vista without Internet?

The effects on this is really nice. The color is nice too. Some type light blue. The max and min effects are a little faster than OSX which makes it a little better for me. You can tell it's effect, but it doesn't feel like your waiting long.

I would probabely say no unless you can find a driver on your manufatures site or something..there is no way around something as improtant as drivers so I think you'll need to wait...:/
