What was the point of the screenshot? The one with the smallest used space from the bars at the top? If it was, Opera would still win seeing as There are no tabs in IE or firefox (in your screenshot..) and your using huge icons in opera - Shifty

F12 and turn em down to about 60%, looks a lot nicer :)

Nope. I couldn't stand the huge tabs and no X for the tabs on the right side of the window.. but the voice commands are fun.. I still hae it so I might convert at a later time.

Again, Shift + 12, use the 'Windows native' skin, and you can have close buttons on each tab, having one at the end is just silly, did you actually use it? I thought everyone used the middle click button to close tabs anyways, much easier

And no, i didn't switch from Firefox, i switched from IE the day i discovered opera 7 ;)

Been using Opera since before there was a FireFox or even a Mozilla 1.0 release.

Mozilla products have yet to offer anything that really tempts me away from Opera. In fact, the one thing I can think of which they do better is AdBlock - but I use proxomitron, and have for over 4 years, and so far I don't see AdBlock replacing that.

The main reason I don't user firefox is that extensions and such would be a net pain in the ass compared to what I have now.

My current solution is Opera + Proxomitron + Grypen's set. That's three downloads or installs to get set up on a new PC or reinstall. 2 things to maintain.

For FireFox, I'd need FireFox + Adblock + Filterset G (or the same proxomitron setup) + more. For instance, TBE, Mouse Guestures, Greasemonky (if they ever get the security worked out - otherwise I just flat out *lose* Userjs). I currently cannot get Fast back and forward in FF (Unless I want an *alpha* build). Probably need more, just wouldn't realize it till I tried.

So there I have to update, install, and maintain far more (and things tend to break between point releases STILL) than with Opera. It's simply an ease of use thing for me.

But most of the ease of use is familiarity. I've had essentially this setup since 2001. It will take something that is clearly *better* than what I have, and either so much better that I'm willing to go through the large pain of migrating, or easier to switch than use some other method to emulate that.

FireFox just isn't clearly better to most reasonable people in that way. OTOH, neither is Opera. Hence why neither side tends to convert the users of the other.

Compared to IE so far, they both pull people - depending on a number of factors.

Those are some very good points. I think I'll switch back to Opera. I miss the fast page loads and smooth scrolling of Opera. Seems to run faster than FF on my older systems too. Thanks for pointing these things out.

Yes - Kinda

I've forced myself to only use oprea for a week at home so I can test it out and so far I like it a bit more then firefox. I do really miss adblock. The main thing it caused me to realize is how bad the memory leaks Firefox has (pc is powerful enough to not be bothered by it). I do prefer Firefox download system better then oprea.

At work, the way we have stuff setup Firefox is better then oprea the way things are and use firefox at work.

So far now, due to free Oprea at home is primary browser.

i tried opera, and im keeping it but the page rendering is faulty. with firefox its just the odd browser code change and activex page that stops it being perfectly useable, because gecko seems so adaptable but with opera my ISPs homepage wouldnt let me log in, and that is a major page. it was good for lots of things but not compatible enough. i liked the speed though :)

Yes i did switch but it's just something about Opera that just doesn't appeal to me.. I mean the interface is nice.. but firefox just seems the fastest to me... so, so much for moving my bookmarks cause im going right back.

Well I'd used Opera before after FF went crazy on my system. Dunno what it was but multiple uninstalls and installs couldn't fix it. When I finally got FF working again I did go back to it for a while, but now I'm back on Opera again.

Opera just seems to load pages quicker for me, and I have yet to see a problem with ads.

Same as every one else for me. There is nothing wrong with opera, just nothing better (except it feeling more polished, but that doesn't bother me too much). I am used to firefox so there is no incentive to go through the process of getting used to opera. I was pressing shortcuts and clicking, as you do, and nothing happening. That would happen for too long before I got used to everything, and getting on my nerves in the mean time. As for the page loading speed, I think opera is about the same as firefox, a tweaked one that is, so that doesn't matter too much.

opera is really nice, but i really love the adblock extension on firefox. Im not to keen to read up the lenghty steps to do this in opera. So my backup browser is still firefox.
