sean l
I installe it, played with it for a little while, but I am just so used to fox that I can't switch. My views on Opera are changed now, thats for sure.
gigapixels Veteran Posted September 8, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 8, 2005 I just can't get used to Opera. I've tried it on both PC and Mac, and it just doesn't work for me. I don't know why, but I just can't get used to it, no matter how long I trial it each time. I'm using Camino on the Mac now... Firefox on PC (as Firefox on Mac sucks). Dan.Varga
Opera is a pretty nice browser but it just seems a little too bloated to me. I am very minimalistic. Firefox is the graphical browser for me.
RebelFX
Nope, as a matter of fact I switched from Opera to Firefox. If Opera releases a lightweigth version of their browser without the IRC client, mail client, etc. I wouldn't mind giving it a try.
HawkMan
I had allready switched :) and... lightweight ? you know the irc, mail and stuff isn't loaded at all unless you use them. considering the donwload is smaller than FF, uses less memory and has a much more resposnive UI, I can't see how they would need to. there's just no point in them release multiple versions. even if they did a version without Mail and IRC, the donwload would at best vary by a few KB, it would use just as little memory and work just as fast, you just wouldn't have the OPTION to use the features should you wish to. Crazysah
I use Opera regularly, but it annoys me that they don't support a lot of JavaScript yet. As such, I can't use the rich-text editor on IPB 2.1, or other JS-dependent tools. I'm hoping Opera 9 adds more JS support, and also adds a few more features. 586493181[/snapback] Maybe we all could suggest it to them! What you're talking about is non-standard, and is in the works regardless for a future release.
Ambience
For all the guys saying how Opera has too many features, and hence calling it 'bloated' or not lightweight - Opera still boots faster and loads pages faster than a tweaked Firefox (yes, I use Firefox so no, I'm not an Opera fan-boy). The only area where you could call Opera bigger than Firefox would be the installation file.

STNG
MNS to this day, there's just one thing i miss in Opera: the tab focus order. when i middle click on a tab to close it, i want the tab on the left to be focused, yet instead it brings me to the last viewed tab. Preferences - Advanced - Browsing - Cycle pages - Cycle in page bar order
STNG
much - it doesn't support NTLM authentication. Please go to their forums in wishlist and complain/wish for support. Use special freeware tool: http://ntlmaps.sourceforge.net/ So Opera can support NTLM-authentication!
STNG
abc@home One little question, can I drag and drop a link just a few pixel (rather than all the way to the tab bar region) to open the link? Yes. You can. 1. Close Opera 2. Go to Opera's profile folder 3. Open opera6.ini in text editor 4. In section [user Prefs] find parameter Enable drag Set (edit): Enable drag=255 5. Save settings If you want to open draged link in new page: hold SHIFT then drag If you want to open draged link in new background page: hold CTRL+SHIFT then drag If you want to open draged link in new page by default (without holding SHIF) go to Preferences - Advanced - Browsing and uncheck option "Reuse existing page" Also you can drag images... =================== Other way: use mouse gestures that working for links. You can set these gestures in Preferences - Advanced - Shortcuts - Mouse setup - Edit For example: GestureDown with action Open link | New page you can change to Open link in background page | New page Now links with gesture down will open in new background page by default Edited September 22, 2005 by STNG
STNG
darkmark327 I tried it but stopped after 2 seconds when I discovered there was no ctrl-enter; you wouldn't think that would matter but it was one of many reasons why I hated netscape. 1. Read this (end of topic) https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=313808 2. Use "Nickname" (Opera's bookmarks feature) Use Shift+F2 keyboard shortcut. STNG
I work a lot with "BB code", emoticons and so on and this explains why is installed "BB code+" extension in Firefox. While using Opera I noticed that if I select a word and I click on a button to format it in IPB text area, the requested tag doesn't appear before and after the selected word, but Opera puts it at the end of the text. I love Opera because i can assign BB and other codes to any keyboard shortcuts: For example: Alt + B - insert BOLD code Alt + I - insert ITALIC code Preferences - Advanced - Shortcuts - Keyboard setup - Edit In section "Advanced - Edit Widget" create new hotkey b alt with action Cut & Insert, "[b]" & Paste & Insert, "[/b]" and new hotkey i alt with action Cut & Insert, "[i]" & Paste & Insert, "[/i]" Now i can select text, then press At+B for insert bold tags, and Alt+I for insert italic tags I think this more better and flexible then BBCode extension for FireFox.
