Wanna build a new computer, what do I need?

Don't know if the asus board has any problems with PNY ram, but you might want to look at Samsung or Crucial ram instead of PNY. But the rest of your specs look pretty good.

That motherboard is for RD-RAM, which is twice as expensive as DDR. Plus you can get a cheaper motherboard since the processor only need a 400mhz FSB, and cant take advantage of the 533 bus.

533MHz FSB Support

Featuring the Intel? 850E chipset to support latest 533MHz front side bus Pentium 4 CPU and RDRAM memory.

The bus is not important, I am saying if you wanna save a few bucks and get the same performance get the one with 400Mhz FSB. The price difference should not be too drastic though.

The motherboard should be able to fit in the case you picked out. But you picked out a pretty large case, so it might become a hassle in the future if you move around your comp a lot.

As for the Vid card, I'd suggest a geforce 4 ti 4200.

For burner, get a Lite-on, and for dvd player get a pioneer or sony dvd drive.

Pick up an optical mouse, it's up to you whether you want Logitech or Microsoft.

well ya but ill probally have more space for crap in the full tower one. (i wont move it around to much). basically is it better to have a big tower rather than a small?

for the Video Get the Gainward Geforce 4 4200............It clocked at 4400 seting and its a 64meg acrd and it kicks the $hit out of ever 4200 around and some 4400 ones too

i'm pretty sure that your motherboard'll fit the case. Unless you're getting something that's not ATX form, you shouldn't have to worry.

Just some input for yah...

Drop the dvdrw drive. No real reason to have that and a cdrw. Just get a normal dvd drive. Do you have a purpose for the dvdrw?

And you can get a case for 60 bucks easy. Normal size that dell or gateway ships their stuff in. Antec makes good smaller ones. In the case description it should say ATX (or AT etc). You want ATX

Speakers...Altec Lansing makes good speakers that are pretty cheap

Normal dvd drive...i like the pioneer slot loading one

cdrw...pioneer, HP, plextor, or TDK make good ones. I prefer Plextor.

Video card....geforce 4 ti or Radeon 8500

Keyboard/mouse...MS or logitech

Either amd or intel will do fine. If you want to overclock, go P4. If you want cheap...go Athlon. The speed difference at that high a megahertz (or gigahertz) is next to nothing.

USB ports....some motherboards have them on there already. They are usually around the ps2 ports. But you can also buy a pci card with 2 or 4 ports on them
